Right. But only for a subset of people, the in-group.
The left doesn't care. In terms of policy, it's classical liberal, just past 90s Clinton. Kinda Utilitarian in a authoritarian way.

It is a rightist thing because powerless people only have rights relative to their solidarity and convincing people that they have rights as an individual lessens solidarity.

And the right wants to lessen solidarity.

(I believe each and any person is entitled to rights as individuals: just that acting as individuals is flawed)

Neither the typical rightist nor the typical leftist actually believes in it as a core value. It's a go-to point for both when convenient to whatever they're currently arguing; and both are just as happy to ignore it when it's not so convenient.

That's not to say no one believes in it as a core value; just that the typical average person does not.

Generally our conscious mind seems to be of one single purpose.

But a body cannot exist without multitudes. Thousands of different bacteria acting with their own intention in your gut and organs.

For some even their conscious mind is not solely their own.. violated by other voices and schizophrenia.

I wouldn't say it's a core value to the left or right.

For the right, it's like free speech. The right says they are for free speech, but they are not.
