Only 30 theaters in the world are getting the 70mm film, the closest theaters doing so are 700+ miles away.

Notice TC was being very precise on it being a 70mm IMAX. There's only going to be 30 theaters that are going to even have that, so it's no surprise you're going to have to drive far for some of these locations. Luckily I live in LA so that won't be an issue on my end.

Damn, even LA only has 2 theaters showing that in 70mm IMAX and we have a ton of theaters. It doesn't seem worth it to me

Less than an hour away for me for the 70mm imax experience. I might consider it, I know one of my friends was really interested in seeing this one.

Closest to me is 127 miles away in Nashville.

Willing to bet that most of those showings are sold out already or near sold out. There's an "IMAX" showing here and a "70mm" showing but no "IMAX 70mm". I hate how deceptive theaters are with their IMAX theaters.

Yeah, I checked the theater in Universal City (Los Angeles). For every Saturday and Sunday through to August 6th, there are only front row seats left. Crazy

Pretty sure tickets have been on sale for a minute now. Might want to check again cuz there's only the outside perimeter seats available at the IMAX near me.

I'm in no rush to see the movie thankfully. And I'm still deciding whether to see it in 70mm or IMAX laser lol

Same. The "local" IMAX showing is 30 minutes away from me tho which is like not really super local (or at least I don't really consider it that).

For us people not blessed with the fine tuning of film art. What exactly make the 70MM so special?

Just remember that if you're not seeing it in 70mm IMAX, then Christopher Nolan says you can go fuck yourself. He doesn't make movies for "lesser theaters."

It's a single laser projection with higher resolution. Liemax is two smaller digital protectors combining the image into a single film.

I drove 3 hours one way to see Godzilla King of the Monsters in IMAX Laser at the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum outside of DC.

Multi-hour drives aren't really worth it to me for a movie, though I'm not too big on movies overall.

Like I enjoy movies a ton. I've seen a lot of them and even enjoy "bad" ones. But like, if I'm not already going up there for something else, that's really the only way I'm gonna see something that far away. I remember going up there years ago and had a couple of things I was traveling there for and really enjoyed seeing a couple things in IMAX but like, that's a lot of effort just for a movie for me.

Considering it's an actual, massive film reel, I imagine it's expensive to get the reels made and shipped

If you try watching the best copy of The Dark Knight even though the screen resolution stays the same the IMAX scenes are very obvious compared to the rest of the movie.

There's a massive increase in dark area resolution and just plain detail. Even if you don't watch on the best possible theatre the fact that it's been filmed with IMAX cameras make very noticeable difference.

If you travel, go to the Dallas one. I'll be going to San Antonio, but I nearly got a refund when I checked the reviews on Sunday. The IMAX theater hasn't been updated since the 90s. It's flimsy, barely cushioned flipseats with almost no leg room and the place is never clean

Not coming to Oregon which is about as good an excuse I need to just not see the movie

I'm driving from the middle of the state to see it at that location, probably going to make a little day trip out of it and hit up the King of Prussia mall and anything cool nearby

There is one in Silver Spring Maryland that isn't listed on that IMAX site if that's closer for some of you.

I haven't been there personally but a friend of mine has seen other movies there and says its legit.

There are probably more theaters not listed on that site that are more of a local scene.
