pretty short movie but the story progresses very efficiently and smoothly. uniquely feels like a documentary/movie/stage drama hybrid, i was absolutely captivated by the realism of it all. one of the more spiritually moving films i've seen in a while, there's something very appealing about the metaphysical existentialism, and metahumor of the in-character actors talking about how little actors have to say. ironically i don't think the movie really says that much in the end, but that's sort of mirroring the journey the main character went through: it's not about finding some new, forbidden knowledge as much as we want it to be, it's about knowing how the movie and our very lives will end from the beginning, and finding that comfort and acceptance of it, in our bleakest moments.

The movie that put Ingmar Bergman and Max von Sydow on the international map.

He played Death in The Last Action Hero, not in the Seventh Seal.
