In the grand scheme, most of the basic metrics of flourishing have been improving dramatically over the past several centuries and seem to be continuing to improve now. Health, education, and human rights are doing better than ever before, violence and poverty are lower than at any other time in history, etc.

The main thing that isn't improving is the state of the environment. Let's hope that we achieve sustainable development and/or we make it to space before the earth stops supporting human civilization.

Depends how you contextualize "this world". It's easy to be discouraged when looking at things on a global scale, or even a national scale.

I've found that looking at things on a more local scale provides a better view of my world, including those around me. Personally, I volunteer a lot at community events, food pantries, schools, churches, etc. So I spend a lot of time seeing the kindness of others and generally happy people improving the lives of those around them. Overall, that gives me a positive view of our world, knowing that there are people who still have hope and care enough to make a difference.

In reality, most people's lives would improve to some extent if they disconnect from the negativity in the internet and try to focus on what's happening in their local communities. There's usually a lot to celebrate when you look for it.
