No, and they'll be a lot harsher on original films too in order to justify not seeing it. I disagree. The problem is that people want GOOD films, or at least a satisfying movie experience. Studious know a bankable franchise will probably draw in enough interest to recoup costs and make a profit even if the film is panned. Newer properties are harder to market, and riskier. Movies have become too expensive, risking that sort of money on an untested franchise isn't what is was in the 70s 80s or 90s. Especially with the most popular genre now being action/adventure. This is the most expensive genre to meet audience expectation for spectacle. That's why there was a renaissance of Horror recently as CG costs came down a bit for a genre that's already cheaper to make. --- The right wing believe a fact is what their hierarchical belief structure dictates should be true - Not what is reflected in objective reality. ...
