What makes you think this is door dash? I thought it was just a local pizza place.

The bag is a door dash bag. We give them out to dashers while I was working for Pizza Hut a few years ago. Also. the color of the boxes are pizza huts.

Presumably the pizza place, who will then complain to Door Dash about that driver if it becomes enough of an issue.

Though lately, a lot of places list the Door Dash driver's name, either on the receipt or the delivery tracking info, so the customer could complain directly.

They don't. A lot of pizza places no longer hire their own delivery drivers, they pay Door Dash. Or they hire less of them on certain days and fill in the difference with Door Dash.

I ordered Papa John's two weeks ago and they used Door Dash.

You often have no idea how it'll come when you order a pizza.

Yeah, when they have drivers. Drivers get shit wages, just like waitresses. When they gave me the job a few years back, they asked me if I wanted to do prep/cook or drive. I asked them how much were drivers making. The manager told me $7 an hour. I opted to cook. I got out of there as soon as Office Max called.

If one order is make or break for you, you need a new job.

I mean, that feels like a weird takeaway from this topic.

It was a tiny dog. If it's a tiny dog with no history of being aggressive, what's the problem? The dog clearly was trained and listened to the owner, as it went back into the house with no incident. Also, "unsupervised" seems dishonest. It was very clearly supervised, as the owner opened the door in the first place. It's not like the dog was running around outside before the door was even opened.

Not sure how Door Dash does it, but Grubhub does the tip before the food gets delivered. I know I had a friend that wouldn't do any food deliveries unless the tip was at minimum 10% of the order. Noticed I said "had", personality wise he was always an asshole since highschool.

We've had at least three incidents of employees being nipped at and bit by supposed "friendly dogs," so it's rather annoying when people assume that their animals are going to respond the same way to every single person. It's not like a dog like that could cause any real damage, but why risk the animal's safety?

That doesn't change the fact that the situation was clearly supervised, not "unsupervised." If the dog attacks, then obviously the delivery driver has avenues to press charges. If the animal gets attacked unprovoked, same for the owner. A dog going out an open door when the owner is standing right there is not an "unsupervised" situation.

If you are not in direct control of your animal, it is unsupervised. The dog in that situation has free agency to act how it wants. In 99% of cases, it seems like it's probably well-trained enough that there will never be an issue, but everyone should be prepared for the 1% where the person is extraordinarily scared of dogs and accidentally hurts it or the dog just randomly reacts poorly for some completely arbitrary reason and bites the person. It seems like a completely harmless act, but it's always, "I don't know why he acted like that. He's always such a friendly dog!"

better question: why are you deflecting to this away from the topic at hand? the subject is the driver clearly thinking they have a right to complain about a fucking 25% tip

I have a good friend who is a GM at a Papa Johns. They hire everyone who walks in the door and asks for a job, but theyre always short staffed because the pay isnt good (unless you have an area that tips well) and a lot of people that used to go for those jobs now just deliver for Uber or Doordash or whatever. You can make about the same amount of money, but you dont have to work in the store and you can set your own schedule. Its hard to compete with that, so they just dont. The shitty thing is that his sales are higher and ever, so its not like the company cant afford to offer better pay and benefits, they just refuse to do so.

Corporations suck.

Last week I tipped the same $8 I usually do and the site told me I was being "very generous" and asked if I was sure. Took me a few minutes to figure out it was because I was cashing in reward points for a free pizza and my parents were getting something else instead of asking me to get them stuff so my total was like $15 instead of the usual $70-$80.

Anyway, fuck tipping and make restaurants pay their goddamn employees.

I was a delivery driver in a rich ass town late 90's/early 00's, and back then $5 was considered huge. Average was $2-$3 depending on the night. Probably $1-$2 in poorer areas back then.

That's crazy, not only is that 25%, it's a good tip in general.

When I tip I always start at $5 as a starting point and then go up from there based off the service. Even if the meal was only $11.

Never understood how everybody needs tips in the US, but eh, I don't live there so I can't really complain too much. It's like trying to explain mushy peas.

Anecdote time.

I visited America with friends and family a few years back for a wedding, the best man had brought a small, very rare and expensive bottle of whiskey for the bride and groom. He left it in his hotel room, on the desk, so he wouldn't forget it. Went out that morning to get his suit tweaked.

The hotel room service staff thought it was a tip, so took it and drank it at a frat party or something.

It was a $1200 bottle of whiskey. The best man had intended to serve it to the head table at the wedding, in three days' time. Something about that whiskey being from the small town that the bride and groom grew up in, and that particular blend being something one of their grandfathers was a master distiller or something.

I won't go into details but after a rather angry group of about 40 people making a minor fuss at the front desk, the hotel sourced a replacement bottle. It cost them nearly $2000 to get it shipped in for the wedding.
