Cheese. I buy Walmart's finest and only munch the good stuff when someone else is buying.

Cold roast beef. Rare treat.

Wasabi flavored roasted seaweed. I just spent hours finding the most affordable brand. 20 packs of 0.14 ounces for a total of $16

So how has CE been faring on affording their snacks?

Chips are my go-to snack.

Thankfully I'm not picky, so lately I've been buying the no-name brand stuff that's several dollars cheaper.

The prices of snacks have doubled if not tripled, mostly a good thing since I have no urge to pay those prices.

IMO snack prices are one of the biggest indicators that inflation is mostly corporate greed. Snack processing/packaging doesn't require much human labour and are easy and lightweight to transport, so they aren't as impacted by rising labour and transportation costs as other products, yet somehow the margins have increased by more than any other grocery item and have not come down since the pandemic ended.

I have not had my wasabi roasted seaweed since the pandemic started but just found a pac from before. *the bliss* Since purchase of middling-Korean brand I have since nom-nom'd 5 PACs, each half the former size.

Treat yourself right.

I spent like 70 bucks on what was mostly just snacks today. -_-

Sure it was a lot of snacks but it doesn't make them less expensive.

I usually cruise the aisles to see what snacks have a good sale. They had bags of chips for $2 each last time so I stocked up on Cheetos.

Sometimes I'll buy those Dole gel fruit cups at full price though since I rarely see a decent sale on them.

I've also been getting into baking French macarons but those aren't cheap to make and take a good bit of time and effort.

My man, just buy actual fruit from the fruit section. "Fruit" cups are filled with sugar and preservatives, any nutrition and vitamins have been candied away in those tin cups.

it's one option... other option i'm thinking of is buying canned fruit (no pineapple) since jello doesn't set if use that. can use favorite jello and fruit mixed in to let it set.

same exact thing.

on topic, spent 10$ on cookies and crackers (chips ahoy and ritz crackers). wanted roasted vegetable flavor but couldn't find if it was on sale. had to settle for garlic butter and everything.

I started saving tons of money getting my energy drinks at the dollar store. They charge $1.25 for what other stores want $3 for. That adds up if you buy a lot of them, which I do.

I also stopped eating pita chips and beef jerky altogether because theyre too expensive now. I get corn nuts, store brand tortilla chips, fruit, and sometimes Walmart brand cheerios (if they have the zero sugar version). I also eat peanuts if I can find a big container of store brand nuts with light salt (or no salt). Between the insane price increases and the fact that almost everything in the United States is sugar coated or honey dipped, I dont have many choices for snacks. Im very slowly being forced to become a vegetarian because my meat-based snacks are not an option now.

A 3 lb bag of pumpkin seeds is $26 on Amazon. They are premium and sea-salted but considering that these are not organic and are not GMO and are not union or fair trade

Plus considering pumpkins have the seeds in the center and there are hulless varieties and I am buying in bulk

Well, it doesn't work 100%, but

1) Slice up apples into slices
2) Put them in a bowl
3) Fill with salt water (well, water + salt) and let it soak for about 5 ~ 10 minutes
4) Remove the water
5) Place in fridge (put something to cover the top of the bowl to minimize the contact with outside air, but no need to get super concerned over it.

Granted, it doesn't stop 100% of the browning, but it's good enough to last a day or so (or at least I finish the apple/apples within a day, so never really found out how long it's good for).

Not sure if Walmart sells a bigger one but they have a no salt one that's only $2.50 for 16 ounces.

Not who you were asking, but Opal apples dont brown. They are a hybrid apple (not the GMO one that doesnt brown). They are a cross between a golden delicious and topaz. They have very low levels of the enzyme that causes apples to brown.

Thank you for the tips on being able to keep sliced apples for 24 hours

re Walmart cheese. The swiss and brie is ok. The shredded cheese and the bleu cheese work fine in cooking.

Making a batch of burritos and freezing them might be worth the work.

Aldi has a store brand of Oreo-type cookie that is pretty much the same for like 1/3 the price

Do they have the limited edition flavors? Those are the only ones I ever buy.
