AD in Chrono Trigger begins with the founding of the kingdom of Guardia. I guess BC could mean before coronation with AD being a fancy way of referring to the royal dynasty.

I like it.

But didn't the dynasty last longer? Maybe I'm wrong without googling it.

Simon Peter was a pretty strong party member, though I dont understand the dual tech where you cut off an enemy's ear and Jesus immediately heals them

Idc what anyone says, Ted Woolsey added so much soul to the games he translated. Yeah sure it doesnt make sense that Frog speaks in old english when no one else in that era does, but that just makes it funny and his character charming.

I like Ted Woolseys work too. I can understand why he can be polarising but its not like he butchers games the way the original FF4 translation did.

In the couple of lines he speaks as Glenn, he doesn't speak in old english there either. I haven't studied the Japanese script, but could that be Ted's way of interpreting him disguising his voice/identity beyond the curse?

Woosleyisms fit CT in particular like a glove. Because, let's be real (and more on-point with the topic), CT didn't take its worldbuilding very seriously to begin with, and is rife with fun little anachronisms.

For instance, if you're visiting medieval era of the game, the normal thing to expect would be to have the enemy leaders portrayed as effete, vaguely-English aristocrats. What you wouldn't expect would be a trio of colorful, irreverent punks literally named after Rock icons, who ended up being popular enough to be brought back apropos of nothing for a sequel that otherwise did its damnedest to distance itself from the original. Funny thing is, the anachronistic company Magus keeps jives surprisingly well with his personality and backstory; a brooding loner of a kid who's thrown into a strange time period, and has to throw together a ragtag band of misfits to gain enough power to confront the monster who ruined his life.

Bearing that in mind, the moment the DS retranslation turned Slash into a stock effete stiff was the moment that version of the game lost me entirely. Why'd they even bother to keep the name 'Slash' if they'd removed the personality that made said name remotely relevant?
