Its his fault for not sending his death squad to force them to rule the way he wants! In fact, we should just abolish the Supreme Court. Ideally, we just just have a system where one person makes all the decisions. What was that called again?

What they *were* supposed to do was run a candidate that wasn't so garbage that they'd actually lose to trump the clown. Now it's harder, but they could always grow a spine and take bolder actions like ignoring the supreme court, but apparently only republicans are allowed to be bold (like refusing to confirm supreme court picks while democrats say "aw shucks").

Problem is some of them are truly leftist that legitimately do not like GOP policies but also fall for the Kool-aid that Dems are the same. Places like Rose Twitter comes to mind, and those who stayed home 2016, but genuinely confused why Dems didn't perform a miracle to save Roe v Wade.

My main point is there needs to be a more outreach to educate people on WHY legislation does not pass, and HOW legislation actually passes. Because some legitimately think their participation trophy of sometimes voting is enough. They vote once or twice and think just because they voted or that Dems have a 1 or 2 seat majority, that it magically changes how many seated members in Congress are needed to actually support legislation and what number ACTUALLY tends to legally obstruct.

At this point, I see no way for the Republicans' active and long-planned sabotage of our fragile democratic republic to be stopped by non-violent means. They're just too entrenched now, and the party apparatus itself has become violent extremists who openly committed an act of terror against the US government that has effectively gone unpunished, despite its failure to install Trump as dictator-for-life.

The only way I could see Biden (or any hypothetical future Democratic administration, assuming we ever get any of those again) managing to possibly succeed at stopping the GOP's final push toward turning the US completely into a fascistic dystopia is if he openly declared the Republican Party as being the terrorist organization behind the attempted violent coup on January 6th, 2021 and an active threat to the United States as a whole (and he wouldn't be wrong), and that it would now be official government policy to treat both the GOP itself and all of its members (whether elected, appointed, or merely supporters) as such. And even then, I don't have much hope that it would work, considering how much of law enforcement and military openly backs the GOP and would no doubt defect to them, and how the dumbass centrists would no doubt immediately believe the GOP's bull about Biden being a "tyrant" rather than finally open their eyes to how the GOP openly want the US to be a tyrannical state.

I think what people see is a seeming lack of urgency towards the structural issues that elected Democrats spend a lot of time decrying. When given power, they'll point to the Supreme Court or filibuster as reasons they can't wield it, but has there been a push from party leadership to make public issues out of those? Does anybody believe Joe Biden even wants to get rid of the filibuster, or alter the number of Supreme Court justices, much less get into a fight over them?

Judicial blue slips are a very good example. We've all seen the importance of the judicial branch, but Democratic senators are abiding by a practice that allows Republicans to veto judges from their own states - despite the GOP not returning that favor under Trump:
https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/02/politics/senate-judicial-nominations-blue-slips-durbin/index.html
If Durbin allows Republicans to block Biden from filling trial judge nominees in their home state, it really is going to hamper president Bidens ability to leave a mark on the judiciary, said Chris Kang, an alum of the Obama White House Counsels Office who is now chief counsel of Demand Justice, which advocates for Democrats to take a more aggressive approach to the judicial confirmation process.
Of the 38 district court vacancies that dont currently have nominees, more than two dozen are in red or purple states where Republican senators have veto power via the blue slip over whom Biden chooses. A large swath of those openings are in the South, where some of the most consequential decisions on voting rights, immigration, and other contentious policies are handed down.

You start to see a pattern where Democrats are apparently more concerned with the upholding of Senate decorum or abstract rules invented by slaveowners than policy outcomes.

The system is designed to be that way because politics is meant for the rich who have the freedom to not have to spend 8+ hours a day working. Apparently Americans have to be political experts, but politicians don't have to know shit about the things they pass laws on (just look at tech, for example).

I agree that the electoral college is bullshit, the work of people who really did not know what they were doing. But also the Clinton campaign spent resources in the final days trying to ramp up the popular vote margins in New Olreans in Chicago.
https://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/michigan-hillary-clinton-trump-232547
But there also were millions approved for transfer from Clintons campaign for use by the DNC which, under a plan devised by Brazile to drum up urban turnout out of fear that Trump would win the popular vote while losing the electoral vote, got dumped into Chicago and New Orleans, far from anywhere that would have made a difference in the election.

There are real ways in which the choices made by Democratic officials and those around them matter, and blaming voters for criticizing those choices isn't a useful means of getting them on board.

Seems like tit-for-tat destuction of the few elements of structure in our government, elements that often play the role of tampening down governmental response to rapid shifts of policy due to elections and what not, might not have the desired goal.

"But they do it so we have to to keep the field level" doesn't work so well when the very organization of government depends on at least one governing body working in good faith with the rules.

Shit like this is said with the expectation that someone like Trump (or rather Trump himself) has no chance of gaining control again. I just don't see that being a possibility given voting patterns.

You're assuming the system isn't already busted beyond belief. Why let fascists take full advantage while you sit around pretending the system has working checks and balances? You're just paving the way for fascists to continue pushing and gaining power. Spoiler alert: they're going to bend or break rules regardless of whether you do as well.

If you think the system is broken, breaking it more to give those who govern more impunable power, when many of those people act with interests that do not align with the electorate but frequently get elected anyway (all of which is the reason you are angry to begin with), is not the right move. The right move is revolution and rehauling the system.
