Electronic Gaming Monthly was my shit as a young lad. Their stories were my favorite and I especially trusted their reviews.

Who publishes trustworthy reviews these days?

I used to read Game Informer and I thought that it fucking SUCKED

I'm pretty sure I still have a copy from Jan 01 with Twisted Metal Black on it.

But GameInformer was the big one I had. There was also the PS Magazine, Nintendo Power and PSXtreme.

Yup. I had subscriptions to Nintendo Power, GamePro, EGM, Official PlayStation Magazine, PSM, and Game Informer.

i had subs to EGM and GI back in the day and while i preferred GI, there was some good to be found in EGM

I only ever read GamePro and Nintendo Power. GamePro I only really read for their guides and hints/tips, I did like reading Nintendo Power just for the fun of it.

EGM and Gamepro was my two.

I loved EGM, but never really subbed to it. I honestly loved their layout and how they had multiple reviews for the same game.

I was a GamePro dude through and through until PSM came around. Between the two of those I have a couple hundred issues in my collection.
I also have a complete set of all the Official Dreamcast Magazines and the demo discs!
I threw out my EGMs (I wish I hadn't ) and Game Informers at one point a few years ago.

I love physical game mags and I'll pick up old GamePro and Nintendo Power issues when I find them. I've been collecting Retro Gamer mags for several years too!

I liked Gamepro over EGM but have a ton of both

I remember EGM was where I first learned Street Fighter was coming out with a sequel. The pictures were small, but the graphics looked very impressive. Then a year later, I got to play SF2 for the first time in my local arcade.

I would read them at the library while waiting to use a computer. Good times.

EGM was my shit. I loved their reviews. I'll never forget when MGS got 4 10s and so did Ocarina.

My favorite mag. Miss going to borders to get the next issue. Sad how internet claimed them both.

I have every issue of EGM from late 1999 to around 2006 I believe boxed up in my house. I was particularly a fan of Seanbaby talking about the crap games.

Getting my monthly issue of PSM was the highlight of my month.

Hell yeah I read EGM. Had a subscription for most of my teen years as well.

I distinctly remember MGS2 getting three 9.5s because of the convoluted story. Turned out to be one of my favorite video games ever.

I totally forgot about how other mags would have demo discs. I played the shit out of Parappa the Rappa on demo from some magazine or another. I was terrible at it, but it was fun.

That name brings back fond memories. I remember being in junior high and someone in class would always have an EGM or GamePro on hand. When new issues came out a bunch of us would crowd around to check it out or pass it around.

I love their April issues. I remember their Sheng Long and RE2 Akuma hoaxes.

I still remember the one reviewer who got alot of shit for giving Chrono Cross "only" a 9.5 instead of a perfect 10. Years later they asked him if he would finally change the score and he said he would...to an 8.5.

I have some old EGMs still. Some of those were 500 pages. Granted there were tons of ads but the ads were amusing to look at too. When I moved I recycled a bunch of magazines that were sitting in my closet or basement but I kept a healthy dose still just for the memories.

I guess my favorites were PSM and well old Nintendo Power had just such a wholesome aspect to it. PSM was sweet though, I feel like they definitely had a good vibe and made you feel like videogaming was cool.

That was Official Playstation Magazine. At least here PSM was some independent magazine. Let me grab a cover art.

Yes, it would later get rebranded as Expert Gamer. EGM2 was more like Tips & Tricks.

Just went to eBay to browse some vintage mags and holy shit why is Gamefan in particular so expensive?? Like all the differing game mags are at least somewhat collectible but I'm seeing single issues of Gamefan asking $20-$80 plus shipping! And small lots of 3 to 10 issues with starting bids upwards of $200.

Makes me wish I kept more of mine. I think I only have two or three in my collection these days.
