I love creeping myself out reading this shit in the dark at 5 30 in the morning. List the ones you know about/find the most interesting.

Maura Murray's case is pretty creepy. There was also one where a normally upbeat and cheerful woman just started staring blankly at a wall in a manager's office and started repeating something strange, then she went missing shortly after. I seem to remember that being part of Maura's case but apparently it isn't. That one really got me creeped the fuck out when I first read it.

What's even creepier is that quite a few of these people seem to always have something in common: a sudden change in behavior (saying cryptic things, acting out of character) before disappearing soon after.

Give me the willies CE. What creepy missing persons stories do you find the most interesting?

I used to be really into this one guy's research into missing people in American National Parks. David Paulides. He has a book series called Missing 411

All these stories of people who vanished in National Parks under bizarre circumstances. He used to be a guest on the paranormal radio show Coast to Coast AM, a lot

Onset of mental illness before disappearing seems likely.

Murray was exhibiting uncharacteristic criminal behaviour and showed signs of a breakdown before she vanished.

Yeah it probably is a mental illness thing.

Whats weird about Murray though, is the fact that she conveniently got into an accident, somehow unscathed, then just vanished. What kind of criminal behavior did she exhibit?

Using a stolen credit card in restaurants.

That kind of risk-seeking behaviour is a classic sign of mania.

Person who was normal develops mental illness due to stress/unresolved trauma/undiscovered brain tumor etc., wanders out into the woods one night in search of the hidden entrance to the sacred elf kingdom they saw in their visions or something, dies from exposure, and then the wild animals eat the carcass.

There are some reputable youtubers that make quality documentaries, look for the guys with millions of subs.

I watched a lot of Unsolved Mysteries growing up also.

This case that happened very close to where I grew up.

A man broke into a woman's house, beat her up and abducted her 4 year old son. Her other two sons were unharmed.

https://charleyproject.org/case/mitchell-deon-owens

Ora only caught a glimpse of her son's abductor. She believes her attacker may have been a man she'd met the previous night at the Enlisted Men's Club at Moffett Field Naval Air Station in Mountain View, California. He offered to buy her a drink, but she declined and walked away. She thinks the man followed her home and then drove away when she reached her door.

The man has never been identified. He is described as 6'0 tall with brown hair, blue eyes, a mustache and tattoos on his arms. He was approximately 25 years old in 1983.

Another possible suspect is a man who knocked on Ora's door just a few hours before the break-in. He identified himself as a police officer and was in uniform, and asked about a report she'd made about a stolen purse the month before. The Menlo Park Police Department has no record of any of their officers stopping by the Owens home on that date.

Ora received telephone calls for years following his disappearance from an unidentified male. The caller repeatedly threatened to abduct her other two sons. It is not known if the calls are related to Mitchell's disappearance.

Authorities stated that they hoped current forensic technology which was unavailable in 1983 could help solve Mitchell's abduction and the assault on Ora. She has criticized the police investigation, stating investigators did not look hard enough for Mitchell because the family is African-American and poor. Inexplicably, the local police at first listed Mitchell as a runaway juvenile and refused to take action to find him.

Tragic and scary.

Do they have to still be missing? The Canadian woman that went missing in a hotel in California, and was found later in the water tank on the roof. She was caught on tape acting strange in an elevator. It had a weird similarity to the movie "Dark Water".

There's a decent-ish Netflix documentary about the Elisa Lam disappearance.

It deals with the case and the bizarre Internet phenomena it spawned.

Kenny Veach. He has a bunch of youtube videos posted and disappeared on a hike where he was looking for some sort of 'M Cave' he had an event with in the desert reserve sheep reserve north of Vegas, which happens to be fairly close to Area 51- so the conspiracy theories came naturally

There's been a boatload of other adventurer type dudes/youtube channels that have traversed all over that mountain range looking for signs of him and this cave. Lot's of stuff to watch

I have reservations about it, because it's a 'cake and eat it' piece of journalism. It want to be common sense and debunk the outlandish theories, but it also wants to be 'hey! look at all this creepy shit!'.

I don't find it spooky.

I do find it very sad that there was no one to help the poor girl when she needed it.

@Zikten thought you might be interested in this.

https://abcnews.go.com/US/video/houston-man-found-8-years-after-vanishing-100616224

I've been hearing about this case for the past few days now. Like the title of the article says, teen went missing 8 years ago. He was walking his dogs and the dogs came home without him. Not much is known but I found this comment on Reddit.

Random citizen found him sleeping/unresponsive outside of a church. Called 911. The missing man was wearing a necklace of his late brother (died 2011), which identified him. They contacted his mom. Man refused to go with ambulance. Mom signed off for ambulance not to take him. Then I assume she took him there herself, because he was there since Thursday.
Ive been nosy in the comments of this case since it is local, there seems to be much more to the story. 2 men came into the hospital asking for him, according to his aunt. Also according to her, the day he went missing, he was saving a little girl from being abducted, so theres the thought that he was taken instead. The mom stated his complexion is very, very dark now, Im assuming due to being beaten so much? And he can only respond in 1-word responses. Hes 25/26?, but thinks hes a 14 yr old with another name.

There was a woman that made her husband "disappear". Later his step-daughter told police that her mother killed him, burned him to ashes, and spread him around out of a moving car. The step-daughter got scared and recanted, then she "disappeared" too. The woman never got any charges because they never found any bodies.

I didn't like it. They stretched what could've easily been an hour and a half to two hours documentary into a multi episode fiasco where they were literally bringing in YouTubers and stuff to just speculate about what happened to her. Felt pretty disrespectful to her compared to a lot of these other missing/murder docs and I couldn't bring myself to finish it
