lol No

It does get a little addictive exploring the Depths to light the entire thing up but the content and rewards aren't worth the time investment. The devs really failed in making it really fun and worthwhile.

Wish there were more tangible goals down there imo

its all just beelining to the next lightroot or yiga hideout.

in that respect its a lot closer to a generic open world game than the surface, which rewards wandering

>Is still not very far into my first playthrough
>decides to visit the Great Plateau on a whim
>gets wrapped up in a neat multi-stage quest to carry 4 stone eyeballs into the Depths
>lucks into finding a pair of pants with giant lightbulbs on them
>realizes that the eyeballs reset all the way back up to the surface if you reload; annoying at first, but actually increases the tension and forces me to put some thought and care into transporting them
>carries the first one to a cool massive stone golem
>soon thereafter sees some obvious Yiga goofballs hanging around
>is suddenly trapped in a fun death derby with Master Kohga, one of my favorite characters from the first game
>is rewarded with a godsend of an ability
>completes the eyeball quest
>is rewarded with a FULL heart / stam container AND the ability to trade for one of the most useful pieces of clothing in the game thus far

So yeah, I'd say that the Depths have been one of the highlights of the game thus far for me personally. One of my chief complaints about BotW is that there was very little deviance outside of the Shrine structure for rewarding exploration; so anything that breaks that mold in TotK will automatically earn a few brownie points.

I ignored it for a while. The first hole I jumped into was in Akkala and I descended down right onto one of those giant frog things. I warped right the heck back out.

Needless to say when I tried again later with a different entrance I realized I just chose the wrong starting point. >_>

The problem is there is only one other such quest in the depths

I'm okay with that. Two good quests out of the Depths are still two more than I expected, and a good first impression can carry positive sentiments a long way (admittedly I lucked into that good first impression by actively deciding to go off the critical path, but that's the magic of open-world gameplay for ya).
