A year ago, I bought a 2 TB PCIe gen 3 NVMe SSD for $179. Today, that exact same SSD is $79. It's like that joke where the crazy car salesman cuts price by slicing off digits.

Tempted to buy a 4 TB SSD for $170 to use as a Time Machine back up drive. But analysts are saying prices might drop a little more by fall.

Amazon Prime Day and Newegg's FantasTECH is coming up soon.

The memory cartel has been keeping the price up artificially for so long that this sudden drop seems like it's coming from nowhere but it's been a long time coming. I look forward to never having to deal with mechanical hard drives ever again.

are there any 4 TB SSDs for around $170?

I have a 2 TB that has been working great, but I wouldn't mind the extra space.

I still look at HDDs for my NAS. I mean I won't be upgrading my NAS till at least 2025 but an enterprise 12 TB HDD for $200 is a steal. Wouldn't be surprised by 2025 there will be 20 TB going for $250.

If you separate a long link with a line break instead of a space, people can still copy and paste without making any changes.

If your TV plays MP4 files over USB, a SSD and cheap enclosure turns it into a decent media center.
