Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, and BW2 command insane prices and have since about 2020.

No idea why. They aren't rare games. But that's how it is.

I suppose it is worth noting that all the ones on that list are universally considered the best in the series.

Battle frontier for emerald. HGSS are widely considered the best in the series, and have a battle frontier. Platinum is genuinely great, AND has a battle frontier. BW2 probably for the PWT.

Gamefreak pretends nobody cares about the battle frontier/post-game challenge battles. The used game market suggests otherwise. literally every game with one more extensive than the generic tower is in huge demand.

It's really just common sense, the main story is designed for a child to clear and the endgame legendaries/one-off battles only take a few hours of grinding to beat as well.

So the only real content where you can put your fully built Pokemon to work is either the Frontier/Tournament or multiplayer, and obviously the multiplayer is long dead for these games.
