We moved in together a few months ago and man o man. She's 35 years old and shops like you gave a 15-year-old cash and told them to pick stuff up from the store.

Instead of buying staples like bread, milk, eggs, meat, vegetables, and fruits. She will buy soda, chips, cookies, sugary cereals, chocolate, etc.

Then when we have nothing to cook she'll go out to get takeout instead of just buying the right groceries. So then when I have to do the grocery shopping I have to shop like I'm feeding a family of 5 instead of just us 2.

Add to the fact she doesn't eat leftovers and she's a super picky eater who doesn't eat vegetables. Then she'll put on weight and wonder why. Then get mad if i bring up what she eats and buys

ok venting over.

So, you still thinking of dumping her for gaining weight then?

Regardless of that, she clearly needs to learn how to eat better.

Man, I'm so glad I'm such an easy eater and able to eat leftovers and similar meals regularly.

Some people just can't/won't eat the same meal multiple times in a row, because they "get bored of it" and I find that so weird. It makes dieting sooooo much easier

Same. I kinda just like seeing all the cool food out there. And finding discontinued items on heavy discounts, etc. It's like window shopping... Lol

I tried doing the whole ordering groceries online, but it's just not the same.

Send her to the store with a list.

No vegetables is a deal breaker for me. You got to take better care of yourself and if kids are in the future you need to be a somewhat competent example.

We've gone together but she just kinda follows my lead. The issue is that i usually work 12 hours on the weekdays and she gets off early in the afternoon so she'll go after work.

and she doesn't understand how to shop so no matter how many times I explain it she'll buy packaged meat instead of the fresh stuff from the butcher. So instead of having fresh tasting food we have the packaged sodium fill frozen stuff that doesnt taste good. For instance once she wanted me to make chicken sandwiches and i asked her to stop by the butcher to get chicken breasts or tendors and she got the frozen tyson stuff.

Yeah, love picking out what I'm going to eat. The meal plans form in my head as I shop. What I always end up with tons of is fish since it freezes so well.

Don't get me wrong she isn't like Lizzo big or anything. Before she just had a bigger butt because of it but now it's getting to where she's constantly tired and having constant injuries. She went to the doctor for a physical and they pretty much told her it all because of the weight gain. She went from good thicc to just thick.

Our relationship is on the rocks but its because of other dumb shit. This is just something i needed to vent about.

Nah, she's not dumb just immature. She always falls back onto "well i grew up poor and this is how my mom does it" but i told her that her mom doesnt know how to cook either then and it started a fight lol.

I grew up poor too but struggle foods shouldn't be an everyday kinda thing. We live near a bunch of ramen spots but instead of going out for ramen she'll eat cup of noodles because thats what she grew up with. Since she's a picky eater she wont try new foods. Her sister is the exact same way

I just dont think she thinks its a big deal.

im guessing in her head its "i grew up this way so its ok" because her mom would do shit like that. Her mom worked like 18 hour days as a single mom with 5 kids after their dad left so she didnt really have a choice. She had to buy that kinda stuff.

well, instead of expecting her to change, if you haven't already, you can just try adjusting to her habits. first off, don't send her to shop for things if you're really expecting something particular. also, stop making so much food that you have leftovers. and so on. there are probably even clever ways you can save time and money by planning properly.

no

#1. Her habits are unhealthy

#2. I make meals with left overs because it allows me to meal prep. If i make a batch of chicken then we have chicken for 2-3 days. Neither of us want to cook every night the difference is that she'll go out to eat instead of eating the left overs.

#3. I dont send her shopping. She's an adult and goes on her own. I'm not her father and i cant forbid her to go.

im just here to vent about it man

Since I was being kinda rude before, I just want to say that everyone has frustrations with their SO.

For me, the important thing is that I have much less frustrations with my fiance than anyone else. That is why I decided to marry her. So TC, I know you said things are on the rocks, but that is what I recommend thinking about. Grocery shopping and some extra weight might be no big deal if otherwise most things are great.

Honestly, I have this habit. But my fiance and I never grocery shop together. We surprise each other with what we make for dinner, but just get our own smaller meals and snacks. So my habits don't impact her.
