Which is the best PlayStation controller?

Which PlayStation controller do you think is the best?
Things to consider are the utility, aesthetics, feel, weight, durability, etc. Anything!
Personally, I've used them all, and i think i do have a favorite.

I haven't used a Dualsense before. I like the Dualshock 4, except for the touch pad. For something that has very little practical use it's very prominent on the controller.

after a certain point they all became so similar that they just kind of blend together in my head anymore.

the touchpad's kinda fuckin dumb though so i'm gonna go with whichever one came before it that didn't have that.

I've grown to like the touchpad as a big ass button, though yeah the actual touch feature is whatever. The center of a controller isn't a good place to press buttons regularly so might as well fill that space with a huge one

I'd like it if it were just a bit smaller, so the two surrounding buttons don't feel like they've been squeezed into the sides.

Both PS4 controllers I've owned have broken. I hardly even use my PS4.

PS3 triggers were horrible and the controller seemed weirdly bland but otherwise it was fine.

PS2 controllers are timeless.

I've used PS1 controller, DualShock, DualShock 2, DualShock 3, DualShock 4, and recently got myself a DualSense ... because I can't find an official DualShock 3 and below anywhere!
I don't quite like DS4 and 5 cos of their touchpad and much heavier batteries. DS3 is the latest without touchpad, and is wireless! Best of both worlds. Alas, DS3 seems to have left us..
The DS5 shape, grip and buttons are quite nice though, but give me DS3 any day.

Obviously I notice the lights, addition of thumb-sticks, and whatnot as PS controllers evolve but fundamentally I don't even notice the difference between any of them.

PS2, but admittedly I've never used anything newer. Never did get a PS3, and haven't bought a console since 7th gen.

I often felt like the DS3 was a cheaper materials version of the DS2, albeit not by too much. I mostly hated the 4 controller but lived with it. I haven't experienced 5 yet. 2 remains my favorite.

Hmm, was thinking DS3 for wireless simplicity but then I remembered the problems I had. Random button presses and the analog stick drifting. Went through quite a few controllers. There was also this weird liquid that would leech out the rubber on the analog sticks if the controller was sitting a while.

The DS4 was a lot studier in my experience. Only ever had one and the analog only drifts when the controller is facedown on a table.

I have no experience with DS5.

Use DS4 on a PC and its touchpad is like one found on a laptop, pretty interesting application compared to whatever console nonsense it had. Not a fan of the option/share buttons though.

DualShock 4 and its not even close (though, admittedly, I cant speak for anything after it, but, god, the controllers before it were terrrrible).

Definitely Dualsense and not just for the PS5. For the PC, it's the ultimate controller with Steam Input, has a ton of buttons, motion axis, swipe support on the touchbar that can be split into extra buttons and swipes, just so much customizability. Super low latency.

Flickstick for FPS, extra inputs through swipes and buttons for macros (Elden Ring: red flask swipe up, summon horse swipe down, stance switch left, stance switch right) and even for mod support (FO3/NV night/heat vision, bullet time, weapon fire toggle). Too bad game studios are chained down to shit xinput to fully unlock PS controller potential, could easily have the input amount of keyboards using chorded presses and close enough precision with flickstick. Lots of stuff that really can't be done with other controllers and they're the most comfortable out of all of them.

At first, I was skeptical with adaptive triggers but it makes a huge difference in stuff like racing games or just games with acceleration/deceleration force. Plus 30 bucks for a 2 pack of lipo batteries with 3x the duration.

Everyone saying PS5 is on that hard copium. Nothing will ever top the PS2 controller. Pretty much the perfect controller.
