First time I ever properly tried pineapple was on a BBQ pizza, and I love it.

That's so normal nowadays, it isn't controversial at all. People who are really definite about what toppings they think are "proper" on a pizza are the weird ones nowadays.

Absolutely not. Some people (like me) just prefer to eat food as original as possible. I for one go by the motto "less but high quality ingredients".
You may like the italian style pizzas (thin, crispy rim) regardless of the topings, but I really prefer the original italian pizzas (with the typical toppings) as they are eaten in Italy, like Margharita, Caprese or Ai Funghi). I'm sure, not even 5% of Italians would try a pizza with BBQ.

Now don't get me wrong:
Everyone is free to like what they want and shall eat what they like. I only expressed that I like classic italian pizzas the most. And that BBQ sauce definitely is not something that belongs on them. If it's on it, it's not a classic italian pizza anymore but a new creation (that I, personally, don't like).

It's not pretentious. It's just a different way of how food is viewed. I think, the food culture between the USA and many european countries is just fundamentally different, since the opinion I expressed is pretty much the consent of 95% of the people here (Switzerland in my case). Now, as I said, I didn't intend to offend anyone. To each their own. But if I'm being asked personally, it's just that the thought of BBC sauce on a pizza is "Yuck" to me and pretty much anyone I know on our side of the Atlantic.
I love BBQs and BBQ sauce, just not as a topping on a pizza.

I think you missed the point of my explanation. I have no shame to admit that our BBQ isn't as good as in the USA, which makes sense, since it was created and developed in your country (as far as I know). Which was exactly my point: I love & value originals. That's why I love BBQ in the US, original italian pizzas, french croissants et cetera. Most people here love originals. Mixing up food/ingredients in an unconventional way, however, is viewed as odd (contrary to your country).
