Gunn's gonna have to nail it in the head with marketing and the 1st movie and even then best case scenario is to hope for a break even. But are the execs willing to play the long game of repairing the damaged brand and settle for that? You bet your ass they won't

Honestly, Gunn could have used a good few years with no movies, and I feel like he also needs to completely build it up, remove even his beloved 'The Suicide Squad' characters. There should be nothing that even hints at the old universe.

If The flash performance wasn't bad enough there's also Aqauman later this years that's probably going to be a dumpster fire as well. James Gunn is going to be busy.

WB bros habit of defending scuming actors has biten them in the ass. Of all of them Henry Cavil was the only one that got screwed over and for seemingly no reason other then his MGTOW remarks to my knowledge.

I will say that while I think the whole 'superhero bubble has burst' is an exaggeration I think it's becoming more and more likely that the peak has passed. Infinity War was it.

I don't think The Flash would have done anywhere near this bad a few years ago. Like it seems almost lucky that Aquaman made over a billion.

At the very least I think it's the case for the box office.

But there also doesn't seem to have anything majorly obvious to take its place. Top Gun Maverick, Avatar Way of Water and Mario all did amazingly well. I guess old IP people are nostalgic over is the thing to go for but they've been tapping that well the entire time.

I hope that maybe the focus will be on focusing on movies that show off the spectacle in theatres again. Especially since the biggest issue for the box office overall is streaming. Easier said than done.

I've seen exactly 3 MCU movies after Infinity War - GotG3, and the first 2 Spider-man movies. It's just not that exciting or engaging anymore. I'm burned out. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

It's not a surprise, the whole thing surrounding Ezra Miller was like a lead weight strapped to this film. The Flash is one of my favorite DC characters, but I'll probably catch this film when it comes out on streaming.

Honestly though, I think I'm jsut kinda burned out on comic films in general.

Just last week I had to explain to an 'average moviegoer' coworker who the Flash was. She was of course culturally aware of DC's Big 3 (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman), and Aquaman as well (mostly because of Jason Momoa's beefcake factor). She'd never heard of the Flash, and describing him did nothing to jog her memory.

Can't imagine her perspective was all that unique. This was a movie that needed some very positive word-of-mouth to succeed.

Can we, like, get away from cinematic universes? The MCU is the single worst thing to happen to modern movies, because now everything has to be a fucking superhero blockbuster that makes millions of dollars.

Dapped.

Whenever I see someone clamoring for the Nintendo Cinematic Universe I want to remind them how little the MCU has done to actually tell interesting stories, as well as how the movies have also perhaps wrecked the comics.
