I feel like most countries look at a place like America and say they dont want to come close to the nonsense we deal with here

the Conservative Party of other places affords them that insular bubble I guess
If that were the case they wouldn't vote for conservatives

Yup. There treatment of immigrants is downright evil as well and right wing parties helps enable that.

My mum went over as a doctor to help in the refugee camps and the absolute terror they had and injuries from the police was abhorrent, let alone the fear of going out in public.

Obviously not all Greeks are like that, but many in power are.

The problem is that South of Europe has been left to their own devices when it comes to migrants.
They don't have the capacity to deal with them in any way possible.

People also don't want to hear the other side which is that vast majority of migrants are coming from countries in North Africa that don't have any kind of ongoing conflicts. Morroco, Tunisia, Algeria...you get the point.
Healthy men in their 20s and 30s trying to cheat their way into EU and welfare checks.

Obviously there's a lot of legit refugees who come from war-torn countries, women, childern etc, but a decent number shouldn't be allowed in Europe. And then when those who shouldn't have crossed into EU in the first place rob, rape or murder people, mass outrage happens and all migrants suffer, regardless of who they are.

To put it this way, I'm an EU citizen with master's degree in engineering field. If I were to go to the US, I'd still be checked if I'm trying to cheat my way into the country and if I'm overstaying their welcome. Let alone if I tried to come in without any papers.

That's exactly what a lot of those migrants are trying to do. If the first border they hit was Germany or Scandinavian countries, you couldn't find reason in police brutality, but when it's Greece and South of Italy that are barely staying afloat, then you have to look at both sides.

No, I didn't.

I'm just saying that current migrant situation in EU is unsustainable and noone wants to do shit about it.

Greece is similar in size to let's say Pennsylvania and has even lower population.
Reports say that they prevented 260 thousands of migrants from entering the country in 2022.
Migrants mostly forcibly pushed to Greece from Turkey.

What are they supposed to do with 300k migrants per year if we count those that they also let in? And that number is doubling each year, pretty much. A country with 10 million people?

Then they push some of them up North to Bulgaria and so on.
But very few are allowed to enter Schengen zone. That's the final border before moving anywhere you want around Europe.

Hint: look at what's going on in Hungary with migrants that try to enter.

Western Europe is all about migrant rights and tolerance, but they don't actually want any of them.

I'm Greek Canadian, but I know that Greece has (or had) refugee detention jails and camps and that the police that worked there are often far right wingers. Add the fact that Eastern Europe is corrupt as s*** and the fact that rules are merely a suggestion, there's a recipe for disaster. They also have 1000's of islands and the amount of coast and boats to deal with could be overwhelming. Most of these migrants use Greece as a travel point so they can get to the Western Euro countries (places with better benefits and safety nets, jobs).

That's the thing. As I said in my first post, a lot of them aren't fleeing any kind of war.
There's a difference between migrants and refugees.

A lot of them are just migrants who shouldn't be allowed to cross borders because they've got no valid reason to do so. As I said they're not even from warzones, but countries with no active conflicts. Then because of them actual refugees get mistreated.

The situation is completely fucked up no matter how you look at it.

More accurately European countries have been feeling the brunt of poorly handled policies that would be considered left wing/liberal in America and are voting in conservatives whenever possible due to what they feel is a lack of solutions by the people they tied in until now.

Not like I care but this is what my few European contacts say. To be honest its very largely entered around rising crime rates(and perceived rising crime rates) and welfare.
