The more i know about it the more appalled i am at the gross negligence. A game controller is actually pretty normal interface for vehicles, hell they use Xbox controller for remote operated military vehicles. Game controllers in general are really well designed in term of this usage and can be easily modded according to need. Otherwise everything else about the sub is a nightmare death trap.

The more I learn about it the more I think "how the fuck did this even happen?"

Nobody is bothered by the use of a game controller for controls. It's the fact that he used a cheap 3rd party controller of suspect quality, for billion dollar sub. This decision just completely follows suit with everything we learn about that subs construction.

Most by them operating that deathtrap in international waters, and partially them not listening to the experts that said the previously mentioned deathtrap was going to be a deathtrap with how they were building it.

usually when they skirt safety regulations and ignore anyone who knows what they're talking about, it results in workers or civilians dying

I actually assumed that one of the reasons they skipped on it was to modify the analog sticks easier or something. If you look at the pictures, you can tell they modified the analog sticks for some crazy high accuracy ones that are meant to do this real life, high precision stuff.
