I think I've been playing for an hour and the only gameplay was the combat tutorial and running through a cinematic showpiece.

It's very tutorial-y but the last half hour is a hell of a ride

Very little but it's just so much cutscene

Maybe it felt longer than it was, I dunno

couple hours

I thought the demo was great, I was pretty aborbed by the story

Admittedly it's an RPG so they like to have lengthy prologues to set everything up. The devs reassured that the gameplay will get much more of a focus after the prologue but that there will still be long stretches of cutscenes here and there.

Dad is such a bro it almost makes up for it though.

Add the combat, the rest of the story, and everything else and damn I gonna stay up all night playing this till I literally pass out controller in hand. >.>

Probably the best demo I've played in my life.
Can't say if the story is good, but I will say it is very compelling from what I played.

That part was actually one of the few things that made no sense to me. He even says later on that he's basically the same as you because reasons(I don't mean to spoil.)

Oh shit, you play as Joshua and he actually has like attacks and stuff. That's neat.

Okay, y'all were right. That ending was something else lol.

I was sitting there thinking throughout the entire thing that his bitch mom would have him enslaved on some bullshit charges. And then the whole thing happens and I was thinking, well, maybe you can't blame her. And then the other thing happens and I realized, no, you can for sure blame her lol.

So I finally played it.

It's a mixed bag for me. I really like the graphic style and how they're aiming for a fairly realistic medieval fantasy vibe, compared to other more wacky FFs. And the combat was fairly interesting. I didn't get super into it, but it wasn't bad either.

I do find it very strange how accessibility options are baked into actual gear instead of an option in a menu. I don't think I like that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those gatekeepers that thinks games like this should just be hard and there should be no easy option. Like, I wouldn't care if Dark Souls had an easy option. That's fine. And I totally understand there are disabled people out there, and having the timing rings makes it so they can play the game. Hell, it's even playable with just one hand. I think that's great.

But for some reason, these options being tied to actual gear instead of an option you pick at the beginning of the game in a menu kinda doesn't feel good to me. Just because I'm one of those people where, when I play a video game like this, the "game" to me is min-maxing equipment, and equipping all the very best stuff to try to make my character as powerful as possible. So naturally, that means I have a compulsion to equip those rings, since they're there. And I know, everyone will say just don't use them, and I won't, of course. But it's just a strange choice to me. Why not keep those sort of auto-battle options within a menu?

Anyway, I wasn't too huge a fan of the story either. There are a LOT of cutscenes, and I just didn't find anything engaging. They're going for a more serious kind of story, almost Game of Thrones inspired, but the thing is, they're video game creators, not film makers. So nothing hit for me. Not even that big epic ending.

I sorta felt like I never was playing a video game. Like you know in the beginning of games where there's always some big set piece to wow you, but they're not really indicative of what the actual game is like, and you're kinda waiting to get to the real game so you can finally really enjoy it? I felt like I was in that space the entire time I played the demo. I kept waiting for it to turn into a fun video game but it never really did.

Anyway, I may buy it down the line when it's cheaper, but I don't think it's for me at new release.
