The game got more hatred then it deserved. I don't remember it being a great game, but it wasn't terrible either. The game itself was okay as long as you don't get caught up in the kickstarter nonsense.

I remember that people still have pre-orders for the 3ds version

Same. I dislike the dash mechanic for executing enemies (cool for speed run types, not cool for me), the controls were clunky, movement felt both slippery and blocky depending on the context...

But ultimately I did have some fun with the game. It took some effort and repeated attempts, but it eventually became fun enough to be like a 6/10

On its own, if you buy it when it goes on sale for like 4$, I think it's fine. Its a decent-enough little game that has its charms.

For all the hype that came out of the (multiple) kickstarters - certainly wasn't that good though.

While games like Hollow Knight or A Hat in Time were able to show how good a game from Kickstarter ( or fan-supported in general) could be - we needed a big example of one to crash and burn as well, and Mighty #9 also did a good job at that and helped really prove that "cool thing on kickstarter" doesn't always work out.

The sad part is, this game wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for capcom's treatment towards megaman.

This. The problem isn't so much the end product, it's the travesty of its development cycle. Delays, moves that looked shady even if they weren't, the offhanded comments that rubbed people the wrong way ("better than nothing," etc.) It was overhyped and poorly managed.
