Promo was call of the ring, went strong black/white call/amass build. Currently in the final 8 out of 32 waiting for the next round to begin. Loving the set so far, nothing special but super fun.

First time playing in person in like 15 years.

Read this as "MTG is at a prelease event at a local card shop" and got really confused.

Call of the Ring was also my promo and it absolutely dumped on people with Gandalf (the blue one that draws when you put the ring on someone other than him).

ya same, carried me through both first rounds and then just came in clutch in round 3 to push the final 3 damage I needed to close it out (after 4 tempts). Cant wait for full release!

Nice nice! It only ever got to carry me in three matches but it *hard* beat my opponent in two of those. The third Sauron got involved so even if it was good there too it's hard to deny that "Cast Sauron -> opponent concedes" isn't a bit based a bit on something else.

And yeah, there is some spicy brewing potential for constructed. Call of the Ring is definitely underhyped as it not being legendary means that you can stack the triggers and end up with some really nuts potential situations. I was also pretty impressed with March from the Black Gate. While I didn't get any in my packs I saw someone else have one and it *very* quickly showed itself off as potentially being a pretty brutal snowball. Potentially a strong enough one that it could have some real constructed legs.

I usually will do prerelease, but an often reminded how disappoint I am with the game and what I expect to get out it. Instead I opted to go to a concert yesterday and worked today, so I couldn't.
