The demographics generally responsible were the ones where the majority went for Trump. So people older than millenials. If my generation had its way, Bernie Sanders would be serving his second term. And while I wouldn't say that makes us very sophisticated politically, it's a lot better than people who were damn well old enough to know they were being used for their spite-fueled ignorance to vote for someone that couldn't give a rat's ass about the common person.

Politics has always been TMZ for adults. I didn't pay much attention to politics until Bush Jr, but it was easy to tell it was all a joke when we all knew how evil he was, democrats were screaming about how he was the worst (and he was), but then had the "hope and change" candidate who got a supermajority and... continued and expanded pretty much all of Bush's policies. Now democrats help Bush Jr launder his image and speak fondly of him. Read up on politics in ancient times and you'll see just as much rumor and spectacle. It's a common tactic of thieves to distract with spectacle in the front while they pick your back pocket.

Trump was the worst thing to happen to this country. Without even getting stuff hes done. CNN and Fox News turned into like a YouTube channel. My wife was glued to the TV every day having to watch cuomo and lemon. To see what theyre going to say about trump.

I would say most cared/took notice when an unjust war was launched lasting a decade. Having family and friends serve in Bush's/neocon war one takes note of politics. Also seeing GOP fighting against increase wages and keeping health care expensive 30 year olds see decrease in purchase power.

honestly people have always acted like that, the only difference is that people are pretending a lot harder that there is no such thing as a bipartisan issue. everything has to be pumped up for a show because looking like you agree with the other side is now anathema, so we have republican politicians pretending they are antiwar, democrat politicians pretending they are pro police reform, etc

i blame it on conservatives being so against passing literally any legislation during obama's second term. they swung so hard into being partisan that it's pretty much broken the system and now nothing can be done by anyone unless they somehow concoct an excuse as to how it's going to make one side or the other suffer. and the amount of republican politicians that dont understand the game and actually buy into the crazy shit they say to stirr up votes in the south is steadily increasing

Nah, that's on the media for needing everything to be a horse race and circus to drive ratings which is how they measure profit. It's why they still won't stop reporting on Trump and give him way more air time than anybody else.

My millennial experience:
During Clinton, we didn't have to worry too much about anything too crazy.
Once Bush happened, we were constantly busy with wars and getting into the internet until he crashed the economy.
Then with Obama, we didn't really have to worry all too much after 2012 and could tune out easily. We were more focused trying to find employment and getting through the housing crisis.

In reality, a ton was still going on, but it was easy to tune out from it all, or the president didn't really make things all that much worse - You could expect it to be boring news most of the time.

I think the gamergate and trump era were the catalysts for many to more strongly acquire political ideologies.

War on Terror's "with us or against us" was really the turning point where things like conservative Christianity and policies like Newt's contract on America solidified like cement.

It was no longer in the background, pulling strings and being sneaky. It became acceptable to name terrible ideas openly as policy and platform.
