So thanks to the blackout ive been seeing a lot of subs i normally wouldnt see.

AITA is just a bunch of people justifying their awful behaviors and the community reinforcing it. Its like they forget they live in the real world where people respond to their actions.

One i saw today was a mother in law asked to visit from out of country, the son was flaky about the details, and the MIL shows up anyways. The daughter in law refuses her entry to the building and just sends her to hotel for a week and people are ok with it.

LIKE WHO DOES THAT?! There are days where i dont want my mom to visit me but if she randomly showed up needing a place to stay for a week i wouldnt turn her away. It's called being compassionate and one day they might need something from the MIL. From the post in question, all her friends and family were pissed off about it too.

Imagine believing any of the stories on AITA.

Nah, she shouldn't have just shown up out of nowhere.

90 percent of those stories are just made up. The other 10 percent are normally total people doing totally normal things and the OP overreacting. With the replies validating their false beliefs

Showerthoughts remains the dumbest one, though. The literal only good thing from that one was the person that said something along the lines of waterboarding at Gauntanemo Bay sounds rad if you don't know what either of those things are.

If my mother showed up out of nowhere I'm calling the cops. Granted I dropped all contact with that side of my family nearly a decade ago but even if we had a good relationship showing up out of nowhere is an absolute no go and boundaries need to be established. They can stay in a hotel just fine.

It really is all about wanting validation at that shithole.

There was one recently where the OP sold some concert tickets meant for her friends because they kept delaying in paying her back before her credit card bill is due. Her friends got mad at her and she got mad at them.

Imo she could've gave one last warning that she's selling the tickets off if they aren't gonna pay up.

I dont understand the point of a subreddit like that when the stories are almost entirely made up

Being family doesn't mean you get to force yourself on family members. Not everyone had a good relationship and shouldn't be expected to act as if they do.

AITA is fine, most people introspective enough to consider whether they're being a dick or not means they're not. It's like 8/1 odds on NTA.

As for the particular incident TC is talking about, you can't show up unplanned and expect to stay a week, family or not.

I've found it to be the exact opposite lol. The ones I see are all like, "I baked some cookies and ended up eating the last one, so my brother set my dog on fire. I think he overreacted, but some of my family members said I should have just regurgitated it and let him have it, so I thought I'd get a third opinion. AITA?"

For the mom one, it probably depends on your relationship with them I wouldnt turn my mom away, even for a surprise visit And if my BF ever did, Im not sure theyd be my BF for much longer. But my current BF wouldnt do that, so its all good

I'd sleep three to a bed, rather than turn my MIL away from our house.

Lol TC I've been thinking the same the last few days. You can do almost any selfish, shitty thing in the world and AITA will reinforce you for it. Only the most egregious cases get called out for being the asshole. Everyone posts their story in such a way as to make themselves look innocent and angelic and AITA just eats it up.

Or worse, it's a lot of people echoing each other and catastrophically misreading the situation because they didn't stop to ask for information.

The sub literally even has a protocol for asking for more info. Most people never use it.

The few times I've poked in there, I do recall seeing one where they got tore apart with a bunch of "YTA" because they basically put their kid in a messed up situation and punished them for it.

Bet they learned nothing of value and continued to further punish, because what does the internet know about raising kids.

It always cracks me up when people are like "stuff on antiwork is fake". You can clearly tell the people who have never worked a shitty restaurant, factory, warehouse, or really any blue collar job in the adult life.

The lady seemed upset that the mom showed up. She flew in from another country too.

id understand if there was bad blood but it seemed like it was all healthy and the daughter was just being a jerk. It wouldnt be the worst thing to be inconvenienced for a few days and be a good person and it was the first time she did it.

Idk. I couldnt do that. I dont have money to waste on a hotel, personally I rather host them for a few days instead of pay for a hotel that wasnt needed

Tbf, my sister did that to my mom. Surprised her by coming home for like week or something. But my mom also wouldnt turn us away. So, I wouldnt do that to her (or my other family), either

I think your financial situation/class changes this "AITA", if you're Middle class/Middle Income you wouldn't be staying with someone in their house, even your children.
You'd go to a Hotel, instead -- and it wouldn't cost you that much of your pay comparably.

That's like 90% of Reddit.

You only ever get one side of the story and it's always embellished to be favorable toward the one telling it.

And also most of them are fake anyway, so

We did get both sides a few times. I remember when both a GF and BF made a post. And people on both were mentioning how they saw the other posts. Eventually, they were linking them up so people could read both sides

And this kind of mentality makes people want to investigate the posts like its some cold case file.

I find it sooooo weird how obsessed the internet is about the details of strangers lives. To the point where they need to cast decisive judgment on them with extremely limited details. And if the details they want arent there? Theyll just assume whatever they want that isnt said.

Long story short its a whole sub full of people that just need to step out into the real world imho.

Do you know the dynamics of their relationships to believe she wasn't justified in said regard? Details don't really matter tbh. Maybe the daughter wasn't a nice person but more likely they just weren't close.

As for the sub I don't like it, most storys are either fake or just trolls/terrible people seeking validation. Or just to rile people up.
