That chocolate flavor wasnt made from a cocoa bean on a tree in Colombia, it was made in a lab in Utah.

All "chocolate flavored" foods are artificial. If it used real cocoa, it wouldn't say chocolate flavored. It would just say chocolate.

That hasn't been true in a long time. It's now mostly from petroleum.

This isn't like Munster versus Muenster cheese, corporate lobbying hasn't stripped away meaning from the packaging labels.

Not even all things containing real cocoa can be labeled as chocolate.

https://www.fda.gov/regulatory-information/search-fda-guidance- documents/cpg-sec-515800-labeling-products-purporting-be- chocolate-or-chocolate-flavored

The Commissioner advises that such products as chocolate pudding, made from cocoa rather than chocolate, may continue to be labeled as "chocolate pudding" because the consumer has long recognized that this product may be made from cocoa and does not expect it to contain chocolate. A chocolate bar, on the other hand, is expected to contain chocolate and may not be made from cocoa without being labeled as a "natural chocolate flavored" or "chocolate flavored" candy.
In light of condition (2), the use of the term "chocolate" need not be limited to chocolate cake, chocolate cookies, chocolate pudding, and chocolate milk. We believe that any other nonstandardized food product that contains cocoa as the chocolate flavoring ingredient may bear the term "chocolate" so long as it can be demonstrated that consumers have long recognized that the food product may be made from cocoa and do not expect it to contain some other chocolate ingredient.
The terms "chocolate flavored" or "natural chocolate flavored" must be used on the labeling of any nonstandardized food in which the consumer could reasonably expect a chocolate ingredient but which contains cocoa as the sole source of chocolate flavoring.

By and large, any confections with actual cocoa particles is going to be considered chocolate. White chocolate only has cocoa butter and no actual cocoa which is like the one weird exception.

The difference between cocoa and chocolate is the presence or absence of the cocoa butter, so most things sold as low fat alternatives are going to be sold as "chocolate flavored" rather than "chocolate".

Hershey and Mars is not "US Chocolate"

That's like eating at McDonald's and Burger King and going "America sucks at burgers"

Dont get me wrong, Im not trying to claim that its impossible to get good chocolate in the US. Just that its similar to where I live where the most commonly eaten chocolate is really low grade shit that wouldnt even be sold as chocolate in some other countries.
