This post was like a sledgehammer to the face in how hard the realization of how shallow bioware morality is just hit me.

i like a paragon femshep, but who goes renegade when the situation calls for it

unfortunately the game really doesn't want you to play like that, so you can't fully experience it unless you're on a later playthrough or just use a trainer to max out your scores so you can roleplay in the roleplaying game without railroading yourself into certain choices just to gain the points

"Peak Bioware writing" is actually kind of embarrassing when you talk about its morality system, it's just that it was much better than was on offer otherwise. Or at least without having to get into niche territory. That was an era of pretty slim pickings when it came to well written stuffs.

And renegade was just "fun", but it barely made any sense from the universes' standpoint. FemShep has a lot more going on in terms of potentials, but basically every male character explicitly was a bro, even when you were supposed to be in a relationship, so it felt far more accurate to be MaleShep. The VA for FemShep was pretty fun regardless.

I've done pretty much all the variations, and for someone only playing once, I'd recommend Male Paragon Shepard.

It was interesting in the first game how you could be an outright human supremacist in the first game. They chickened out with that in the sequels.

Didn't bioware or someone say renegade was the canon version?

No. ME3 defaults to a fair amount of renegade options is the source of that rumor. However, they *did* say the reverse: that the fact that they are default does not mean that they are canon. Basically nothing is actual canon beyond a small selection of bits (such as Shepard surviving the suicide mission in ME2... which shouldn't exactly be that hard to believe) but everything else is just a general "shrug."

The closest thing to a canon as far as renegade versus paragon is the interactions between Shepard and other characters, and how most of them act like you've been paragon when going to a new game (as in, until you've been renegade in this one they'll assume paragon). In addition there are quite a few heinous actions you can do as a renegade that generally don't mesh very well with Shepard's general perception, making them come across as super dubious as anything resembling canon.

Paragon always wins baby.

In seriousness the whole trilogy is more satisfying playing Paragon. The Male Shepard also just has more quality romance content compared to the female Shepard.

Paragon FemShep doesnt come off like as much of a boy scout the way MaleShep does to me. Jennifer Hales performance is just better imo, and my favorite kind of playthrough is a mostly Paragon FemShep with a pinch of Renegade.

Which is ironic, since in the second game you join a human-centric terrorist organisation.
