The friends I've had since high school are my brothers and sisters by choice; a declaration by each other that comes from love, not the obligation of blood or marriage. For me, that makes it truer than any relation of circumstance. The logical extension of that is that the relationships I have with their kids feels more like an uncle than most of my blood/marriage relatives. --- The food here is terrible. Really depends on the area of the world you're in. I'm from Hawaii, and from there it is very common for such older people to get referred to as uncle/aunt. (The younger ones generally won't be referred to as nephew/niece, though.) ... Copied to Clipboard!

When people find out you are adopted, they constantly use the "real" adjective and argue if you say that your family (the ones who adopted you) are your real family.
