Yes, they used it. No, I never would.

My mother would sometimes slap me if I stepped out of line. Never been spanked before. I have no intention to ever have any children myself, only pets, and I will never ever deliberately hurt them.

I would imagine they do still believe in it, but I'm a bit old for it at this point.
No kids, no plans to have kids, can't say for certain I'd never spank them, kids these days are insane.

I was mostly a good kid, but my grandma definitely took me to have a talk in the bathroom a few times.

I can remember my Mom smacking me one time and my Dad never did.

I would get beat up so bad, they would keep me home from school. Yeah, that shit was rough.

I do not use it on my kids. Realistically I have very good kids. I really cant remember the last time they misbehaved and I had to punish them at all.

My father spanked me. All it did was make me fear him more than I already did and give me extreme anger issues. He also did it way longer than I think anyone would say was reasonable: he raised his hand to hit me once because he thought I'd gotten deodorant on my shirt when I was a senior in high school.

My mother didn't spank me. She was barely involved in my life. She drunkenly whined to me recently that she should have spanked me as a child because I had turned into a shitty, manipulative asshole like my father.

I don't have kids. If I did, I wouldn't spank them. The research shows that, at best, it does nothing positive. My lived experience is that it fucked me up. I'm now the age that my father was when I can remember being hit, and I can't even imagine raising my voice to a child that small.

Definitely got slapped now and then for being an ass.

Learned nothing though.

This needs to be spread around more. Actual research does not back up any of the positives people sometimes claim (like "I needed it to become the man I am today" or whatever). I'm not sure what goes on in the minds and hearts of people who spank, hit, or beat their children...especially not if it is more than once.

There is something wrong with the people who do that, or aren't sure if they would do that. And don't go talking about "kids being crazy these days" or whatever. Kids are the same as they have always been, plus or minus some societal factors. Behavioral issues and mental illness can't be solved by hitting people. Eventually you might have to cut them off or get police or mental health services involved if you have a seriously troubled child, but hitting people isn't OK and makes everything worse.

My dad did. I never did and won't. My son when he was like 1 or 2 got in a phase when he kept smacking people really hard so I smacked him once on the butt to try and show him it hurts but it's not very effective when 1) you don't do it very hard and 2) that person is wearing a diaper so he just laughed and thought it was funny. He grew out of that phase fairly quickly at least and he's never really done anything to have to be punished for.

Spanking, no.

Punching and kicking with the odd bit of strangulation, yes.

I was spanked a few times. My parents eventually just gave up I guess because nothing really fazed me. I was a really bad ADHD case when I was little.

I did have a bar of soap put in my mouth before when I was little. Didn't taste good.

parents never spanked or used tabasco.

one of my uncles used tabasco punishment.

there's other ways to punish without corporal punishment/spanking. restrictions happened once though i only lost sega genesis access for a few days for something i did (don't seem to remember what caused that).
