Is the champions leather worth it? I'm just rocking a varying mix of soldiers armor, gliding gear and climbing gear.

meh, it looks cool, has the highest defense for a chest piece, but you can mix and match whatever, and something around 40 total defense seems like a good place to be

At 4 stars it has 32 defense, which makes it the single best piece of armor in the game from a damage reduction standpoint, the next best soldier armor and the diamond circlet at 28. So that is nice and frankly it's easy to upgrade, though boring, since it just involves riding a dragon for 80 minutes, harvesting parts as it regenerates.

The downsides is that it isn't part of a set and thus doesn't have a set bonus and it doesn't really have a notable bonus itself.

4 points of armor = 1 heart's worth of damage reduction, assuming the enemy is hitting above your total armor level. Most armor pieces cap out at 20. So wearing the Champion's Leathers is saving you three hearts per hit from the stronger enemies.

At a minimum it is straight up better than soldier armor which has less defense and also has no notable bonuses.

Nice I didn't realize it actually had more defense than the soldier armor, which seems weird but oh well lol. I thought the big benefit of it was seeing numbers on health bars, but I just pay attention to the color of enemy I'm fighting to figure out how much health they have and what weapon to use.

I actually don't even do a lot of combat lol like last night I played for an hour and a half and after fast traveling to a tower I realized I hadn't so much as swung a weapon to turn on a zonai machine

I don't think I've encountered anything that does more than 1 heart in my fully upgraded royal guard shit so I'll probably just stick to that when I need raw defense
