The show is dead and I have no interest in watching its corpse flail about for another season.

For being bad writers and not appreciating the source material, basically.

The other half to that story is he left production so he could sign up to return for the next Superman movie...before it got cancelled -_-

That might be part of it, but for sure he was unhappy with the show's story and the creators' disrespect of the source material. Which is something I wish more actors would speak up about.

Reminds me of the guy who played Piccolo in Dragonball Evolution. He had to really fight to make Piccolo green, and those little indents of 'antennae' were only there because he requested the character to look more like Piccolo.

Then he went on to voice Zamasu in the dub of Dragon Ball Super and did an amazing job, so... what I'm saying is we need more actual fans involved in making adaptations of this kind.

Yeah it was both things, which sucks balls for him since he has no tentpole gigs at the moment until Marvel inevitably calls him up

He has that warhammer project coming up, though, right?

Yenn just does things for me.

Also, as someone who's read all the Witcher books...the source material isn't that good. Like the world building is solid. The characters are decent and like the spark notes of the plot are okay. But the pacing is all sorts of fucked and a lot of specific plot elements aren't very good. The short stories that take place before the main plot were good though.

Doing a strict adaptation would be a gigantic mess. Liberties would have to be taken to be watchable.

That's not to say that all the liberties they have made have been good either. Season two was a bit of a mess, but not because they disregarded the source material.

Is there actually anything to the thing of "he disagreed with the writing and that's why he left"? Or is it another case of fans projecting their opinions onto one of the stars?

Wait, that's the one that's not Cavill? I knew all the stuff about him leaving, but he actually introduced it at the Game Awards, so I figured this was his last season since he was promoting it.

This is his last season. Season 4 and beyond is Liam Hemsworth.

Agreed. Cavill is actually a Gamer and super based, the guy knows his shit. Just to drive the point home, in an interview where he was asked if he played The Witcher on xbox or playstation, he replied "PC"

I also read he sometimes shows up late because he was busy with WoW raids or something like that, idk if that part's true though

Agreed, I appreciate the dude's dedication to source material but it's just bad. The entire way the narrative is structured is awful. Like mind boggling levels of bad. Like at points it's people from a future that might not even be their world telling a story to other people, then in that story the characters are like "yeah it's like when this happened to Geralt" then it will zoom in on Geralt or whatever viewpoint character is the focus.

There are plot hooks that are left completely unanswered and the ending is just incredibly unfulfilling because of it. If the games hadn't actually come along to continue the story it would have been even worse.

Anyone who has read it that wants to tell me what they liked about it? Seriously, because I genuinely don't understand it. I went into it wanting to love it because of the games, and was extremely disappointed.

It's possible to take liberties with the source material and still be respectful of it. A good example is The Mask with Jim Carey. A bad example is Velma with Mindy Kaling.

Im kinda torn about season3. Id like to watch how the story unfolds in the show but losing Henry Cavill to creative differences of the source material has my doubts on the entire series.

Yeah the games introduced me to the witcher and its adaptation from the books is nice. What many of us dont get is the videogames' adaptation of the witcher from the books is so good that it re-invigorated the series interests to everybody around the world. The videogames used the books to build such great game of the year content. Sure the videogame interaction is maybe challenging but the games' story and game world visuals, interactions, and stories (quests) is immersive enough to seek further details into books for a few of us (i started reading the books and have the first 3 books). CDProjekt knew the books content and used it in their games, taking characters into another level. Taking creative, adaptive ways to convey their stories in the games. Witcher 2 & then witcher 3 left fans wanting more.

Some writers have expressed how poorly the witcher is written and the tv adaption creative decisions has some of us wondering... whats going on?

Season 1 took the 1st book's approach of introducing us to the world of the witcher. It was acceptable. Short stories of characters, settings, & locations. Season 2 went further into the witcher and gave the audience more to details about the world. However, the shows direction divided many fans of the series. Season3 seems to be even more story details and new threats immerging from seemingly outta nowhere.
