A lot of people treat not believing in God as a good thing because of their own negative experiences with Christianity, or because of what many people do in the name of religion. Some people also dislike religious institutions because of the amount of criminal conduct it facilitates (it's not just the Catholic Church with an abuse problem---plenty of protestant pastors have also been abusers).
