The NYC and surrounding region was basically covered in orange smog yesterday. It was so bad that it blocked out the sun. Seems it's moving down into the Mid-Atlantic region now.

Yeah, I shut down outdoor maintenance activities about an hour ago. Not sure if we'll be able to work in these conditions tomorrow, supposed to be just as bad. (Buffalo)

My phone instead of displaying the upcoming weather just displays the air quality number now. I'm in south-central PA and my air quality is 183 right now.

It isn't nearly as bad here in central Pennsylvania, but you can definitely see smog/smoke if you look at the mountains and the sun has been very strangely red in the mornings and the moon has been blood red at night. It's... honestly very creepy. I work second shift and there was definitely a small layer of smoke

Not at the moment. The smoke cleared up here over a week ago.

Yeah it keeps saying the number is really high but when you look outside it doeesn't look all that different.

If I still lived in north NJ it would have, but I moved in March to Florida.

Its worse now than yesterday.

N95s do, surgical masks do not.

I ran out on my lunch to grab some co-workers an N95 at a nearby CVS and it looks like a dust storm blew through like they used to growing up in CO.

I grew up around wildfires but never seen one this bad. This was taken in NJ by the by, in the city of Wayne.

I didn't think the "dust storms" in Morrowind could happen in real life. I am so sheltered. I guess I've seen them on TV but *shrugs*

I lived in a desert valley as a kid, so on really dry windy days they would whip up the red rock dust and sand and carry it all through the valley.

It would only last like an hour, but it was always kinda cool to see.

As my province is actively on fire, yes I am dealing with air quality issues

Upstate NY. Hazy, and sometimes the air smells of burn wood and possibly chemicals, but the air quality isn't quite awful, definitely don't want to risk physical activity in it though.

Visible haze in Philadelphia at the border of Bucks County. Very very slight color to it. We will probably get what NY is experiencing soon if it continues to go downwind

I live in central Mass. On the map in the op, somewhere in the middle of the cluster of orange and yellow spots just northeast of NY.

It's a little hazy in the air, but nothing even remotely close to these pictures of NY. That looks so bad.

Forest fire smoke smells nothing like campfire. It is terrible to inhale.

Overall, today was way worse than yesterday. The sky turned damn near completely dark orange by like 2 PM like Bladesyphon's picture.

I've never experienced anything like this. It's so surreal. I hope tomorrow is better.

Philly has gotten significantly worse since I last posted. The air is straight toxic now. Went outside to put the trash out and needed to wear two N95s just to breathe. The smoke is also lighting up the whole area to the point everything is visible even in the middle of the night.
