Would you?

For actual hardware features like that, nope. If it was a software-based service that needed connectivity or regular updates, maybe. (Maps for a built in GPS in the pre-smartphone era would be an example.)

Id pay a subscription service for access to vehicles. I kind of already do, in that I just rent a motorbike for months that I actually use one.

I'd just straight up not own a car that had features locked behind subscriptions

I looked at that kind of thing here, but the cost is so high that I could buy a car within a year for what they charge. Not quite as fancy as what's available on the subscription, and of course maintenance and insurance would be extra (fuel isn't included tho), but yeah, not remotely worthwhile.

If I used a bike more often, Id consider buying one. But it costs me like $40 per month when I do get one and that includes any maintenance and getting picked up if it breaks down (hasnt ever happened, to be fair). Fuel is dirt cheap here anyway so barely a consideration. Just seems easier to rent.

Yeaaah, the prices are nowhere near that low here. o_O Interestingly, the cost of outright buying a car is lower than the US, but renting one would appear to be much higher.

I'd either refuse to buy new cars or pay someone to jailbreak it (or whatever term would be applicable).

I mean, I'm sure Elon Musk would do that with Tesla if he found a way that made him believe he could get away with it.

Buying cars here is crazy expensive. One of the few things that is.

Thats why everybody rides bikes.
