i watched the dungeon dudes recent videos on it, and it does seem like it has way more options than 5e. your characters are more unique due to all the traits, background, and multitude of options that impact your stats and abilities. don't know anything else besides that though

I don't even play That Dragon Game anymore.

I've moved on from combat simulators. They were fun and had their place in my growth as a gamer. I don't regret them (except my sole GURPS experience...), but they're not my jam anymore.

Its a great system. I like it a lot better than DnD. When I want to scratch that itch Ill bring it out.

But I collect TTRPGs and bounce around systems.

Rotgrind and Rotgoons are a couple of Pathfinder 2E campaigns I watch on Youtube, they're good at taking the time during sessions to explain some of the mechanics and how they differ from DnD.

My brother plays it, and by the stories he tells me, it sounds more like it's just frustrating.
Though most of that can probably be chalked up to the DM

What stories? It's usually easy to tell if it's a system problem or a DM problem.

You have me curious.

Correction, i think it might be 1e he's playing.
Some sort of alchemist.
He did mention some frustration that the poisons were lame or weak. Poisons all having weak Save DC that never gets stronger.

But most of it seem to be based on "i wanna do thing" and DM responds with "no, you can't do thing cause i say so"

Found an old reddit post he made that ends with "Then DM said it wouldn't work anyway beause he discourage experimenting"

That's a system thing, and has been since the earliest days. Part of it stems from the thematic idea of players being good guys and good guys not using poison.

But it also comes from the balance issue of giving players access to stuff that bypasses damage and challenge ratings. Scaling it would break the game economics, too, because players could afford a poison that could kill anything, or players would complain, "How does NPC have that poison to use against us? It costs a billion gp!"

And the fact that devs... just never put any thought into poisons because critters that use poison almost always have an ability that scales like a creature CR should, meaning no one thinks about a poison needing one of its own.

There's lots of reasons poisons are just... bad. And they're all baked into the system mechanics.

100% a DM problem, with the qualifier that players sometimes ask to do stupid and game-breaking things that you have to say no to in order to preserve the game.

But most of the time, it's a DM who can't cope.
