Fun fact: Kim il Sung, the grandfather, came from a devout Christian family growing up and Pyongyang used to be one of the most Christian cities in all of Asia before the Japanese invaded and well before the Kim family took over.

Wouldn't be particularly surprising either way if it's real or propaganda. We know for certain the regime there is cartoonishly stupid, so you could make up pretty much anything semi-realistic and it'd be believable.

The fact that anyone actually thinks it's going to end up like V for vendetta is hilarious

Though as horrible as a lot of gamefaqs is about religion, I did learn about how for example the Catholic Church covers up sexual abuse and I guess that's all some of these people see because that's all they're exposed to.

Nah sadly America has too significant of a population that defends religion, and it's also way too intricately mixed into the constitution and other declarations that the modern country around 300 years later somehow refuses to deny in a reasonable capacity.

Meanwhile yes, there are a bit too many NK denial in CE and even plenty outside CE. Again, I'm just gonna call out that generally the denial comes from the denial that things could be worse than their so-called oppressed self. But we enjoy a greedy level of freedom in America, and many other countries do as well. It's the way it should be, but some places are in a non-production monarchy. What can you do?

Also yes, there are many reports that Pyongyang is pretty much equivalent to what Seoul was like about 10-20 years ago, which would still be a modern city by US standards. They have amenities, though they obviously don't have the level of freedom most modern societies do. Except they're fine because their needs are very well met

These are not usually the type of people that show up on these stories. Pyongyang is very small compared to the rest of the population and country. There's a reason we know very little outside satellite photos and selective testimonies about how the other cities are doing, but like a heavy majority is that they're living in factories, farmlands, and/or massive poverty.
