Maybe my expectations are too high or I'm just nitpicking for things in a game that is otherwise incredible

But it's like...all the exact same tracks in most cases. You ride your horse, that same old music. You go to Hateno or Kakariko, exact same tune. They didn't bother to do a variation on a theme, even. Literally copy/pasted the music file.

Trailers promise me hot sax. No sax to be found anywhere in the game.

The sky island music is mellow sax, but not hot sax like the main theme.

This is the biggest sin of the game.

They do have some, great non-mellow music in the game. Not to what I'd call the Zelda standard, but at least there is more than BOTW

A lot of it is pretty subtle, much like BOTW. The Wind Temple boss' theme for example is quite good, but I felt like I hardly heard it in the actual fight. One of those ones you have to look up afterward to really appreciate I guess. I found that being the case with a lot of the music from BOTW as well.

The temples have good music that amp up the more you progress. It's dope as hell.

The temples and bosses all have good music. The music that plays as you go through the final chasm leading up to Ganondorf is really good too

I don't mind the reused tracks though personally

Normally I hate the reused tracks but for some reason I'm okay with it this time around. Plus they do some regional remixes like with the stables.

There are some legit great tracks, like basically everything involving the Wind Temple. But yeah it uses a lot of BotW which was already divisive in its understatedness.

The sound direction in the game is excellent, though. The musical cues when transitioning between different elevations of the map never gets old.

You should show up at Nintendo's headquarters and demand hot sax.

It's one of my biggest complaints with the game. That and lacking some QoL.

BotW was a 8.5/10 and TotK is also 8.5/10 because it reuses ALOT of BotW assets and content while making only a few improvements despite having a 6+ year dev time.

I do wish the overworld had more music. It didn't bug me in botw, but maybe just the fact that we basically have the same minimalist soundtrack when out in the wild feels too quiet and boring. It woulda been nice to have some fuller tracks while exploring. Maybe two or three different songs that cycle per biome or something so they don't get grating.

Imagine a toned down Gerudo Valley remix while shield surfing in the desert. Hints of the Great Sea theme mixed into an original track for the Necluda Sea and beaches. Something other than alternating silence and the shrill cold weather track.
