Every next GOP hopeful will try to out-fash the previous one. At one point people might look back at trump and desantis and think those were wholesome times, the attack on LGBTQ will branch out to the same attacks dedicated at specific races, religions and other "identity" issues. Imagine those guys who attacked target and said "you sell a rainbow shirt, so now I am going to attack you employees" but now saying the same about selling ethnic products or even having minority employees.

It is really, really worrisome

Almost 10m people who didn't vote for him in 2016 voted for him in 2020, after 4 years of him at the helm. These people lived through those 4 years and thought something like, "Well y'know, I didn't vote for him the last time around, but he's sure proven himself to me!", which is...ugh.

Honestly the general electorate in the U.S. is one of the worst voting populations I can think of when it comes to western democratic nations. Goldfish memories just waiting for Republican propagandist ads to scare them into voting for the fascists who only ever ruin the economy and seek to take away our rights & freedoms.

It's one of the reasons the GOP has been so focused on securing state governments. With a majority they can propose amendments and ratify it with nobody to stop them as long as they're also in control of the federal govt.

The president can't unilaterally do that.

You fail to take into account that somebody would need to stop him and it surely won't be a Republican Congress that does so. Maybe the SC would, I know Trump was certain they'd overturn the election for him and they didn't, but in general there's no reason to have faith they'd do the right thing ever. It's just a nice surprise when they do.

Yes, these past 5 years or so have proven that something being illegal or not allowed by the system is meaningless on its own. It really is a matter of only if you get caught nowadays.

And even then, first the person tasked with catching you has to actually choose to do so in the first place.

The best Trump will ever get at "overturning" the 14th would be harder standards at birthright citizenship, because of the "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" part.

Not even if you get caught. Trump was caught trying to blackmail Zelensky into announcing a fake investigation to hurt Biden during the election and it has been demonstrably proven through the Jan 6th committee that there is no Jan 6th without Trump and his incitement. No Republicans voted to even impeach him in the former and I think only 10 voted to impeach him in the latter, with all 10 of those losing their seats to extremists because MAGA doesn't want their people to be held accountable.

The only thing that really matters is if anybody will hold them accountable, and Garland didn't even want to hold Trump accountable, Trump is just such an idiot that he forced him to in regards to the documents and the Jan 6th committee embarrassed the DoJ's non-investigation into Jan 6th with all the stuff they uncovered. Even Jack Smith is making it seem like the DoJ did nothing for 2 years after Jan 6th until other people were getting results.

All this court cares about is forcing their Christian Nationalist views on America. Literally all of them lied under oath saying Roe v Wade was settled law and they wouldn't touch it, and as soon as they could they overturned it with the absolute asinine assertion that the Cons. does not explicitly say we have a right to privacy so therefore we don't. Considering the Founding Fathers made an amendment stating no forced quartering of soldiers, which was obviously from a privacy angle, I'm sure they thought it would be understood that given what they went through to gain independence privacy would be an inherent consideration.

A strict originalist interpretation would be that sodomy laws are unconstitutional because of amendments 9 and 10. There's wiggle-room for states to have them, but you have to argue 9 against 10.
