Exactly how I'd rank them as well.

I'd switch Earth and Fire but all good besides that

Fire is the weakest.

Earth can be changed by water and eroded by both air and water.

Water is moved by air.

Air is the strongest.

Air was mid until Zaheer showed up and showed how OP it is.

Put fire on top and the rest really don't matter after that.

Water is what I think I would have.

With enough gusto, I might get fire and air. Air first, probably, since I like the thought of flying.

In the end though, I would go with multi-element stuff by mixing stuff.

Water is my base, fire and air, or rather lighting together make plasma. The water shields from the effects.

Call me the plasma cannon mage who, if pushed to the end, pulls a zilla and goes thermonuclear.

They had to use the timing of a comet passing the planet and increasing their powers far beyond normal to do it.

But anyway, Earth is the real best element.

They used that night to launch attacks against the other kingdoms that decimated them and then they were only able to keep the others from rebuilding, they couldnt even finish them off in their incredibly weakened state. There was still active rebellion in the Earth kingdom a hundred years later.

So despite having a home turf advantage the other nations couldn't shake off the weaklings and were almost conquered by a bunch of scrubs? Man that's pretty freaking crazy, losing to a bunch of weaklings like that.

I dont know why youre being so weirdly confrontational about this. Its a cartoon. I didnt say that the fire nation is a bunch of weaklings, I said that they were only able to nearly conquer the world because of a once per century event that massively increases the power of firebenders.

I dont know if you can really say thats an advantage of fire bending given that, if earth benders hadnt been decimated and oppressed for that period of time, there could have been metal bending advances that could put earth on par or beyond fire in that regard.

hmmm. I have some thoughts about this. I guess it depends on how necessary it is that the development of technology in-universe parallels the development of technology in actual human history. steam power was a main driver of industrial production for quite a long time. firebenders can also just make electricity themselves. the potential advancements in technology due to earthbending may very well have been impossible without the advancements due to firebending -- certainly they didn't really come about until after the war, at which point they advanced very quickly

but also: your point is quite similar to taking real-world examples of colonized nations abundant in natural resources and saying "if Britain (or France/Spain/the US/whatever colonial power) wasn't oppressing them, they could have surpassed them in technology" which would be ignoring how the colonizing nation got the resources for further advancing that technology in the first place.

but also also: you could feasibly make any number of hypotheticals about what might have happened if x, y, z happened differently. ultimately, yes, anything could have happened if they completely changed the story

For instance, fire can melt ice, but will be doused by the liquid water or smothered by humid vapors.
Air can erode, push, melt or make ice even more immobile depending on its temperature.

Air looks the most fun bending power to have cuz of the gliding and airscooter lol.. still deadly as well even without the lung sucking skill. Remember when aang sliced the giant bug in half with an air slash? That'd fuck up any human. I guess Airbender are just too peaceful to use air in deadly ways tho.

I'm obsessed with acrobatics tho so I'm a bit biased lol.

Yes, that's why I have fire as the weakest.
But if you alter all of them, you'll find air still has the most range of forms (then water, then earth, then fire)
Air can pierce like a solid or wash over you, both at any temperature. Hot air beats cold water.

I mean how long would it have been till someone discovered metal bending though? If it wasn't for the fire nation Toph never would have discovered it because she never would have been put in the situation that forced her to expand her bending. Oh and if we're gonna be technical it's fire, air, water, earth. (Avatar wise at least). Personally it's earth, air, fire, water
