Current Events > Is Baldur's Gate 2 or Planescape Torment the better game?

I've played the original Baldur's gate recently and found it decent but nothing really blew my socks off. I understand that the sequel outdoes it in virtually every way, but I am also reading that planescape has to this day some of the greatest writing in the history of video games.

What are your thoughts?

BG2 because Minsc and Boo

BG is the better game but Torment is played for the writing and story.

If you play Torment, focus on mental stats, it's so much better.

Is there skill check type stuff?

It's not quite that, it's more tied into attributes than skills.

But a big part of the story is how belief can change things, and you can do that better with higher Int and Wis. I don't remember if Cha is as helpful.

BG2 does still have a fantastic story though, along with great party members/banter etc.

Torment is the better EXPERIENCE

Clearly Baldurs Gate, because I haven't played the other one.

From what I've heard, you can beat the final boss in Planescape with talk no jutsu.

I gotta go with Planescape after playing a quick 10 minutes, waking up in a morgue covered in scars with a floating skeleton head imploring you not to kill the female zombies because he's trying to fuck is an intriguing premise to open a game.
