How immediately frightened do you get, knowing that House tends to torture or experiment on his patients in the name of "diagnostic medicine" (which mostly comes down to guesswork on his team's part, let's be honest) and a shocking number of his patients tend to die anyway

Also he's going to be way too nosy and judgmental about your personal life and if you're asexual will outright accuse you of lying about it

Yes this is because of the Dr. Mario topic

Lol I have thought of this a hundred times when watching the show throughout the years and how I'd react to House. As a teen I was like hell yeah I can take him on but now I'm like I dont want the hassle, just get me a normal doctor I'm too tired for this shit

I'd be pretty thrilled since he's like literally the greatest doctor in the world at discovering what's wrong with you.

Although if they already know and it's just about treating the condition, yeah that sucks

If they already knew what was wrong with you, House would go out of his way to avoid having to deal with you because you're not a puzzle for him to solve.

But what if you really do have lupus? I'm pretty sure actual lupus happened once in the show

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Why do you want a rare af disease? Rare af diseases suck because a lot of practitioners don't know about them and available treatments are limited because there's not a lot of people to build data on and not a lot of money in it for big corporations.

As a physician, I'd ask for a real doctor. Doctor House is an irresponsible dillweed who makes dumb assumptions and decisions. I'd also ask why the in the name of fuck there were internal medicine doctors operating the CT machine. And I'd find it suspicious as fuck that they were three people working on one patient for a week.

If I'm seeing Dr House it most likely means I've been through hell and back in multiple offices without a proper diagnosis so what's the worst that can happen at this point?

The doctors operating the machines and running their own blood workups was just TV being TV

But the entire plot of House is that him and his team SOLELY deal with crazy rare cases that no one has been able to solve.

One ep has immigrants sneak into America just so Dr House can diagnose his sick wife.

And the ethics/morality of House and his team being paid a fortune and only having like 100 patients a year comes up frequently in the show.

I've googled lupus so many times since the show released and I still have no idea what it is.

It's an auto-immune disease that can be tricky to diagnose because it can target a bunch of different connective tissue, so a patient with lupus can present with abdominal pain, joint pain, arteriosclerotic disease, neurological symptoms, signs of kidney injury, fluids around the heart and lungs... a bunch of different stuff. The most "typical" image is a "butterfly rash" over the nose and cheeks that kinda looks like a butterfly silhouette, but not every person with lupus gets it and it could be due to other stuff.
Because of this, diagnosis can be quite hard, as was the case with one of the show bigwigs' family members who had been diagnosed. He wanted to spread awareness so he was trying to pressure the writer into putting lupus into every episode. As a result, the writer wrote "its never lupus" into every episode as a joke.

Which is dumb. That's not how things work. That's not how you do medicine.

They come up, but they aren't significantly addressed.

On the subject of macabre jokes, the shore's writer/creator David Shore's wife kept nagging him to name a character after her in the show.

So he relented and named the dead wife of a patient after her. Who House sees in an halluncation

Sure, I never said it wasn't a good show. It is! It's one of the things that got me into medicine. But it's one of the things that becomes very hard to watch as an actual doctor because its hard to see through my hand when I'm facepalming so much.

Also, it's a disturbing but true fact that Scrubs has more actual and realistic medical practice in it than E.R., House MD, Grey's Anatomy and Code Black. Still have to watch This is Going to Hurt, but I hear its real good.

Wonder what that episode with a dad giving his kid a radioactive thingy ended, the one with spinal shocks (one failed patient). Like, specifically. At the end they minimized the shocks, but after the episode ended. Was he coughing up his literal guts? Molting off his skin?
