I'm currently playing Cyberpunk and loving it. I also really enjoyed Fallout 76 and Mass Effect Andromeda. Guess I'm easy to please in regards to why these are considered bad games.

I like some of the more recent Mario Party games. I used to consider 10 to be my favorite in the series before Superstars came out, and Star Rush is also a top 3 Mario Party game for me.

Castlevania 64 is still in my top ten Castlevania's.

Duke Nukem Forever was outdated and a cobbled together game, but it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. It was basically the Morbius of that time. Nobody played it, but everyone said it was the worst game ever.

Clive Barkers Jericho really roped me in to the story so I probably forgave the quirks of the game.

True Crime: New York City.

the boss fights were also diverse and unexpected for that kind of game, and I enjoyed them, for the most part.

I found Monster Seed randomly second hand, actually enjoyed it but kept losing interst at the ruin dungeon with the 4 bosses. I honestly think the game is pretty good, even if most of the magic monsters suck. But i think it also plays much better on an emulator where you can make it run faster and save load through the mazey dungeons later in the game.

But honestly a mosnter srpg with above average but not bullshit difficulty where your allies act mostly on their own is a really good idea and I had a ton of fun with it. I can see flaws in it, but I dont view it as a bad game, though i've seen some reviewers absoutly shit on it. Maybe its more of a Marmite game then a truly bad game

Tales of Phantasia GBA version comes to mind. Awkward translation, awful in battle VA for damn near everyone, and kinda jank gameplay in this version but dammit I can't help but still enjoy playing it, even if I haven't played it in years.

It is definitely the worst version of the game and unfortunately it's the only official version of Phantasia ever released outside Japan

My earlier post was more about underrated, but when it comes to games that I had some fun with but I know werent good, I might have to go with SWAT 1. There were only three missions, and they were all about live action FMV scenes and following exact regulations rather than gameplay. Still, training at the base was fun.

SWAT 2 is still a top 20 game for me, though. Even a bit better than 3.

People seem to hate Fester's Quest, but I like it. It certainly is flawed, though. But it would be greatly improved with a QOL hack that adds the ability to run, gun autofire, bullets going through walls, non-respawning enemies, a map screen, checkpoints, saving, the ability to switch guns (without the downgrade item), and automatic using of light bulbs and keys. Unfortunately, I know nothing about ROM hacking and no one who does seems to care about the game.
The PAL release fixed the bullets going through walls problem.

I blame it on James Rolfe. Certain things that have middling opinions became more of games getting hated because of his fanbase.

I don't put too much blame on him. AVGN is a comedy show first and game criticism second, so he does intentionally play up the worst aspects of games for the sake of humor. People really shouldn't take his videos as serious game reviews.

This isn't all of them, but here's some that I can think of right now:

  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - It's not a traditional "The Legend of Zelda" game, but I still had a blast with it and would dare say that it's still in my Top 5 favorite Zelda games.
  • Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 - It may seem like your typical "shoujo" anime game with tropes sprinkled all over it, but behind all of that I found this to be a very fun JRPG with a uniquely-designed battle system that still makes this game the best in the series for me to this day.
  • Paper Mario: Sticker Star - No, it's not the "Paper Mario 3DS" I wanted and it's definitely flawed in a lot of areas, but I still had a great time with this one and I do like its resource-based approach to the progression. I even liked this (and for that matter, Paper Mario: Color Splash on Wii U) more than the recent Paper Mario: The Origami King on Switch, which I thought was "okay" (at best).
  • Jump Force - I still decently enjoyed this game despite having loads of room for improvement and its roster did give me some nostalgic vibes from watching some of its represented anime back in the day. Now, One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows...THAT game was bad, holy [BURP]...

I generally like Star Ocean: Last Hope. At least it finally felt like the next evolution of Star Ocean: Second Story with space travel and visiting different planets.

I just thought of a honestly bad rpg though the battle system had promise. I don't really like it but Blade Dancer for the PSP just blows after awhile. I liked it at some point while playing it though hah

Two Worlds.

Dumb story, bad voice acting, not the best looking game.
BUT! It was fun to just explore the world and I really liked the weapon stacking mechanic for your inventory. Rather than having 25 simple spears, you could just combine them into one super simple spear that would have crazy stats.
No level matching with the enemies either. So that level 10 wolf that always murdered you in the beginning stayed at level 10 and you could come back and one shot him with your super simple spear later on. Satisfying.
