Random strangers in public? No. Co workers (I don't flirt with them) or people by the nature of their job gotta talk to me. And I mean I will make small talk outside what's required for the transaction or whatever.

I never really learned how to approach women specifically to hit on them. All of my spur of the moment romantic encounters involved them starting a conversation with me, or me randomly striking up a discussion with someone that happened to be in the vacinity and then I kind of realize they're hot halfway into it.

Yes. Do people here really think you should only meet people through work or other pre-arranged groups and parties? Because that's what's left if talking to someone you don't know in pubic is considered creepy. There are definitely right and wrong ways to do it though

Probably not, no. Given that I have a girlfriend already, and I generally don't get anything beneficial from random conversations with strangers.

Probably not. It's sad, but with MeToo and now the internet has transformed social interactions IRL for the worst, I don't bother. It's not on my mind.

On my way to work each morning, my bus stop was outside the store where she worked. I used to see her arriving for work. After a few mornings we started exchanging smiles of mutual recognition and a few words, then I started chatting to her when she came out to supervise deliveries. After about a week I asked her out -- well, more precisely, I invited her to share a bite to eat during her lunch break. Things snowballed from there.

If it had just been a one-off chance meeting we probably wouldn't be together, but when you see someone on a regular basis you've got a chance to build bridges and develop a relationship. Striking up a conversation in public with a woman you don't know does sometimes end up the way you want -- provided both of you want it, I guess. :-)
