No clue, I only played it when it was new. Probably the most fun I had with the series though.

Tetris DS is addictive as Tetris usually is, but the NES themes sweeten the deal

It's a VN with a stellar story and a lot of fun puzzle solving. Go in as blind as possible, itll be a hoot

It's a Japanese adventure game that many consider to be a visual novel, as well. The scenario is that you awaken locked on a sinking ship and have nine hours to escape a series of escape rooms; gameplay is split between talking and puzzle solving in the escape rooms. The game is lauded because there is much more to the story (and series that resulted therefrom) than that. Go in as blindly as possible with maybe direction on what choices to make at best. It's probably twenty hours to the true ending.

Wild World is my favorite in the series. The villagers have a lot more personality than in later games.

Every version of Rescue Team is marginal to outright bad. Explorers of Sky (the 'third version' with numerous updates to the other Explorers games) is still rough around the edges, but it's a very solid, very fourth generational era game. I played it years later and missed out on a rich narrative. Gates on the 3DS is hit or miss, but Super on the 3DS is also great.

Explorers of Sky is not only the best Mystery Dungeon game ever made, and I'd argue it's right near the top when it comes to the best games in the entire Pokemon franchise and the best games in the entire DS library. It's really damn good.

They didn't review well for the same reason that "Is it better than Imagine: Party Babyz" meme exists: because video game journalism is stupid and often fails to recognize actual quality.

Yes, they did. The gameplay is great and in-depth while also being more refined from the previous Rescue Team games, the story is by far the best and most well-written story in any Pokemon game (and not just by Pokemon franchise standards either, it's genuinely great), and the extra "upgraded third version" content added in Sky compared to Time and Darkness fleshes out a lot of side characters and adds even more to the game. There's a reason why the user score is super high despite the critic score being low. Explorers of Sky is the Mystery Dungeon formula refined to absolute perfection.

That's a good game in its own right, just not as good as its successor. If you decide to play that one, play it before Explorers of Sky, because you'll find it hard to go back if you play them the other way around.

Review fatigue is very real on handheld systems. Circling back to Mega Man, each successive Battle Network or Star Force game basically scored worse despite being better due to the mistaken belief of 'same game every year'. Reviewers do not want to see multiple versions which was Explorers' first sin, and releasing a third version was honestly a bold move in that environment. Like I said (speaking as someone who had previously dropped Explorers of Time), Explorers of Sky is an incredible experience worth the patience of cutting through its cheese and yesteryear presentation and game design. It's loaded with content if that sweetens the deal.

Many who play Rescue Team never make it to the rest of the series, though; that's the risk. Since the topic creator has a wide library to sift through, I would skip straight to Explorers of Sky.
