I still have no idea what the fuck is going on and I've really only explored Timber Hearth, the moon, a chunk of the Twin Hourglasses, and immediately died on the water planet, but it's been really intriguing and fun. I've also crashed into the sun twice which you'd think would be harder to do in a spaceship.

Crashing into the sun is a rite of passage in Outer Wlids. It's one of my all time favorite games, glad you're enjoying it

I got tired of trying to sneak past whatever giant anglerfish (how original [NOT!]) was in the hazy area.

Really great game that feels so hampered by its controls. Ive played through twice and most of the issues come from just trying to get to what youre doing.

I'm pretty sure I still have no idea what I'm actually doing. I'm getting a lot of pieces but not really putting them together. I suppose that is the nature of the game though.

The three worlds I've been to are all stunning. Mindlessly flying into Giant's Deep to see giant cyclones, learning that Bitter Hollow has a black hole in the center, and that the Twin Hourglasses are called that because they endlessly siphon sand from one another were all great. Even if that fact about Bitter Hollow has been the bane of my fucking existence. And damn, googling to remember the name of Giant's Deep spoiled me a thing but oh well.

Mostly explored Giant's Deep. Got the info on the orbital cannon, explored that, learned that its tracking module was in the core of the planet.

I followed the trail of the Quantum Moon quite a bit but I've hit kind of a wall there. I managed the tower at Giant's Deep, but I can't get into the tower at Bitter Hollow. Given that the Giant's Deep tower was the "first step" and Bitter Hollow is "the last step," my guess is that I need to check the crystal on the Ember Twin for a tower too.

I'm also impressed at how unsettling this game can be when death has virtually no consequence and there are no enemies (so far at least, I imagine that anglerfish in the museum is not just for show). I'm a little afraid of Dark Bramble tbh.

Yes that is the nature of the game. just keep checking your computer in (I think) rumour mode. As you find more itll start leading you to some of those places and help you figure out mysteries.

also a big issue with this topic is if someone spoils stuff for you. Try avoid it and be as blind as possible

I think i got near the end before i lost my save file. epic game's cloud save feature fucked me. I know to leave it off now.

Anyways I lost motivation to play after that. still one of the best adventure games I've played so far tho.

Yeah, I started off kind of slow because I saw that the game starts you off by staring at a giant blue planet that has something explode and then when you launch your ship, there's a giant blue planet in front of you.

So instead of doing that, I launched myself into the sun trying to get to Venus.

Omg the first explosion scared tf out of me. I was exploring a cave on the homeworld at the time. Thought I did something wrong.

Idr when I noticed the sun changing in colour/size but that is when it clicked and i watched it all the way at one point.

Coincidentally enough, I just finished my blind playthrough of the game yesterday. The only puzzle that really tripped me up was the one on Ash Twin. Though, that was solely due to a misunderstanding. The first time I learned how to solve that type of puzzle, they required an extra step, which I thought was needed every time. So I just held off for the longest time because of it.

if one of the things you like the most about it is the unsettling atmosphere, then check out the DLC. It has a much heavier emphasis on horror, thats all Ill say

I forgot to mention one thing that might have helped with the unsettling atmosphere. The first projection I found was the one that shows you what I assume to be the machine inside the Ash Twin Machine. I had zero context for that, so I just picked up a thing that threw me into a dark room with a bunch of sheep masks staring at me.

I think I counted three activated ones; two are for me and the fella on Giant's Deep, I have to imagine the last one is the Feldspar guy that seems to be playing his harmonica on the Quantum Moon.

Excellent game. I agree with the suggestion to use the journal/computer thing inside your ship as the main guide to progress. This game's ability to get you discovering things on your own is one of its greatest strengths.

I tried it a few times. It never clicked for me. The controls are awful, and I hate the Mars Needs Moms art style. Neat music and I liked the idea of tracking radio signals, but its just not for me.

Yes the controls are awful. But the radio signal tracking is definitely not the game.

the game is about piecing together a mystery. Seeing how things connect and uncovering what is happening.

otherwise the game is basically a walking simulator. If youre not into that you wont like it

Tbh, outside the first ten minutes, you barely see NPCs.

That game was such a breath of fresh air to me. The simple concept of "levelling up" being whatever knowledge you acquire is an amazing thing that has been lost over time in videogaming.

Like once you have all the knowledge you can solve that game in under 20 minutes, but until that time you're just trying to make all the puzzle pieces fit together, while not being explicitly directed anywhere. Loved it, wish I could wipe my memory of it.

Yeah, I first heard of this game in the context of Deathloop being a poor showing of a time loop mechanic. If nothing else, it's certainly beat the shit out of Deathloop.

There was another great time loop game the same year as Deathloop: The Forgotten City

I figured it out. Turns out the downstairs had a purpose and you aren't just supposed to sit there for ten minutes >_>

Turns out suns have really big gravity and suck you in good

HMMMM

So the White Sun Station just teleported me to the surface of Bitter Hollow, not to the Black Hole Forge like I was expecting. It's pointing me towards the power station on the Ember Twin, but the pathway is (1) very quickly filled with sand and (2) seems to always be blocked by falling sand which pushes me down whenever I try to jetpack over. I think I remember seeing the cord in the Stepping Stone path, but it also fills up very quickly.

I tried Dark Bramble. Fucking hated it. Aimlessly wandered through fog until my fuel ran out, but I did just dodge an angler fish. My only thought right now is to fire the scout through the seed at Timber Hearth or scan for a distress signal.

And then either the game or my controller broke, disabling my left trigger. Turns out it's not possible to land on Ember Twin without a left trigger.

I wanted to like it, but it didn't click with me, unfortunately. Which is surprising, since I deeply loved Fallout: New Vegas. Maybe that was the problem: I expected a Fallout clone, but it was different, so I was disappointed.

I haven't given it up yet, it's still in my backlog. Maybe I'll try it again in a few years.

I think you might be doing what I did for a couple of years: mixing up Outer Wilds and Outer Worlds. The former is a puzzle/walking sim, the latter is apparently Fallout in space.
