I give the game credit for rightfully pointing out that trying to rebuild the Order with a bunch of Force sensitive kids is probably just going to end with the Empire murdering all of them and that the only reason they're in danger is because Cere and Cal started this whole quest. But it also means the entire story just doesn't accomplish much outside of making Cere and Cal feel a bit better and taking out two Inquisitors.

I've heard more ardent Star Wars fans claim that trying to stick to the era between the PT and the OT is starting to limit them and I can see that hard in this game. You know going in that they're not going to make a new Jedi Order because Luke's going to do that.

They're also just lucky that Trilla didn't look at the list and make a copy before they caught up to her. Sure would be egg on Cal's face if he gave the Empire a hit list and then destroyed the only thing that'd let him protect them.

Overall surprised at the praise this game gets. I think it was a 7/10, but it got fairly rave reviews. I suppose the fact that my instinct in the games is to dodge rather than to parry might have a lot to do with me not loving a game where parrying is the main mechanic. The bigger issue was the map design was just ass. I was planning to get all the ponchos and shit, but I took one look at Kashyyk's map and just gave up. Trying to navigate that map with no fast travel sounds like a nightmare.

Well yeah. Any star wars story sandwiched between the movies is a waste of time. We know how it all ends and we know if they don't appear in the movies, they are not actually important in any way.

You should try to get all scans/force echos without a guide.

That'd be fun.

Yep.

What gets me the most is just how popular Cal is as a character.

Like.. he's fine. But he's about as bland, generic, bog-standard a protagonist as you get in the series. The guy has like no personality.

And yet everybody lives him. Everybody's constantly begging for him to cameo in the mandalorian or something. his Jaro Topal lightsaber is one of the most popular in custom saber shops and such. And I just do not get it.

I thought it would at least resolve the storyline kinda nicely, but it just sort of ends.

I couldn't find any text guides that would just tell you where to go from the start, they were all "on your first visit, then on your second visit."

There was a video on Youtube, but I saw that the Zeffo one was an hour and a half and I just said naw, dog.

Cal is particularly boring though. His big conflict is that his dad died.

Cameron Monaghan is very attractive though, so it kinda makes up for it.

There's a French site that has pictures of where the echos are, both in world and on the map, but the descriptions are in French.

Pretty sure there's another site that has them in English, but I found both via google.

Idk how well a GameFAQs guide would be able to convey the Echos.

I didn't realise he was that popular.

I hope we do get a live action cameo. Been a long time since a video game is referenced in an overall canon.

Game rating scale:

10 - Universally beloved, an EA/Activision game being reviewed by a major publication, or a game with a lot of fanboys

9 - probably the actual best score

8 - pretty damn good, with a few flaws or one major flaw

7 - average

2-6 - Raging dumpster fire

1 - Has politics the reviewer doesn't like

It's a personal story about the people involved and their growth with each other.

That said, Fallen Order has very "start of a franchise" vibes to it, which they're following through on.

I'm assuming that means there are droids in the second game because the only ones in the first game that aren't BD are security droids that you murder.

Basically this.

A huge problem with setting everything they can within this one small era of the Star Wars story is that basically none of it matters, and practically all of it is made entirely moot by the fact that episodes 4 through 7 exist.

Yeah they're kinda stuck making media in this era because the first game (and the sequel) was developed right in the middle of the sequel trilogy. It wouldn't be possible to make Star Wars story set after the end of the films like we had in legends for a while.

So anything having to do with fighting the empire is just something devs are forced to deal with while trying to tell other stories.

The thing is though, Mandalorian and apparently Andor (which I haven't seen) do tell a story between the trilogies and they do it well because they're not focusing on things that would be ruined by the movies. They didn't have to make the plotline about restarting the Jedi Order.

Star Wars is just creatively bankrupt of an IP despite all these galaxies and planets and trillions of characters to write a story on.

If by "they" you mean Disney? Then yeah they didn't have to. But Disney owned Lucasfilm is pretty controlling about what kind of Star Wars stories get to be told in accordance with their plans. Respawn made the first game but had to get approval from Lucasfilm for everything. The sequel is then forced to follow up on the Empire plot even though anything about them wasn't going to feel significant.

By contrast, Mandalorian and Andor having the freedom they do baffled me. I'm glad for it, but it's strange why Favreau and Schiff were allowed to tell very un-tropey Star Wars stories at all.

I think the stories serve their purpose. They illustrate what happens in between the events of the movies. It gives you time and opportunity to flesh out characters and the world building, which The Clone Wars really did with Anakin in particular (making his turn and fall even more believable).

Even Rebels shows, in part, how different elements of the Rebellion got their start and how the Empire drove its own citizenry into (open) Rebellion. Is it necessary material? No, not really, but if you're bought into the overall story of Star Wars, then it is not pointless.

Even Fallen Order's story serves to illustrate how heavily the Empire cracked down on the remaining Jedi and due to that experience, Cal makes a difficult choice to not tether together the remaining force sensitives in the galaxy, thus giving the Empire a juicy target. The story is meant to address the question of "If there are (so many) remaining force-sensitives left in the Galaxy, why didn't some of the remaining Jedi band together to train them and fight the Empire?"

It all ultimately plays into why the 2 remaining Jedi Masters (Obi-Wan and Yoda) put their cards on Luke and Leia, beyond the plot demands of the OT.

Even Rebels had to do something with its own Jedi so the story could still fit the narrative of the OT.
