Immigration issues aside, the average American worker DOES mostly suck. Anyone ever worked in retail? People constantly calling off, working at half speed, showing up late, quitting mid-shift, etc.

Some might say "if you pay them better that will be fixed". With a small %, that may be true, but after six years in retail I can confidently tell you that most people are just lazy ass motherfuckers
This is the stupidest thing Ive read today. Ask yourself why are people quitting mid shift. Actually, since its you, you might come up with some BS like they just didnt pull themselves up by their bootstraps

Georgia learned their lesson back in the Obama era when they passed a similar law: produce was literally left to rot in the fields when there weren't migrant workers to pick them.

Hopefully Florida learns, too.

It's been tried before. Then they ended up bringing em back by the shitload by the dozens with extra incentives. Happened around the 30's I think.

And yet they complain that they don't get raises or promotions. Imagine that.

There isn't a magic salary number where lazy people stop being lazy. It's a personality trait.

It's also extremely entitled to think that employers have to give you a big salary bump before you decide to show up for work.

Oh man, the much vaunted twenty-five cents an hour raise. Finally their financial worries are over.

So they expect that calling off shifts, showing up late, and working half speed should get them bigger raises? Please do explain this logic to me.

Have you ever worked in a corporate environment? Directors and management never at work, always late on any budget arrangements, slow to respond, leaving mid-work day to the notice of no one, always off on vacations for weeks at a time the one time you finally need their input on something before having to go around them. Yet still making way more than anyone putting in any semblance of work beneath them.

What a shit take. Retail workers have to put up with so much bullshit for such meager pay its no wonder theyre dead inside.

I worked retail for 6 years. When I started, they were hiring at $8/hr (terrible). When I left, they were hiring at $17/hr. Guess what...the quality of work didn't change at all.

Lmao. What kind of silly response is this? If they're making $2 a day over there and $20 here, it's still exploitive, yet better than what they have over there.

I deal with tons of construction deals up here in NY. It's always some white dude that drives in his BMW or Benz, and gives you a market price estimate, so you're not even saving any money. Then when the work begins, it's 5 or 6 undocumented dudes that bust their fucking ass 10 hours daily till completion. No matter the weather.

Since I speak Spanish, I get friendly with some of these guys and ask them how much they get paid and its always BS like $35/day or $200/week, which is outright embarrassing and not any better than slave wages.

You are arguing with a far-right advocate from the former Political Board.

Thing is, this implies that DeSantis as a personality is in any way new or original; he's a garden-variety wannabe dictator and clout chaser who has the unbelievably good fortune of being propped up by a humidity-addled voting base and a multibillion-dollar rightwing media empire desperate for a Trump alternative.

So you've already seen Ron DeSantis as the cliched villain in no fewer than a dozen movies throughout your lifetime.

Sounds like bullshit to me

Those jobs having shit pay and no benefits, with power tripping micromanagement at every turn is precisely why people drag their feet at those jobs. I was exactly the type of worker you described when I was making $8/hr at Walmart, but I'm much more inclined to try to excel and do better now that I'm making $35/hr with better benefits and a better working environment

Behavior follows the conditions, not the other way around

Probably because $17/hr still isn't a living wage.
