I don't need everyone in a three mile radius to know my burrito is ready dammit.

When we upgraded from our old model in the early 2000's the difference in noise was shocking

And why the hell does it need to alert the entire building that I'm punching in the numbers for the time...?

.. also what happens if you open it up before it finishes beeping does that curse your food or what.

my microwave doesn't just beep after it's done, it keeps beeping periodically until you open it. utterly pointless and obnoxious

Its actually useful for forgetful people or busy people. I know when I was younger, my parents regularly put something in the microwave and started doing something else and forget all about it. Also most modern microwaves have a mute option for those who dont need it.

It's hilarious how microwaves do this and ovens don't.
One makes a ton of noise while running, continues to do so when the food's ready and isn't a danger to forget about in any way, shape or form. The other is pretty much silent, doesn't continue to make noise when the food's ready and could ruin the food or even burn your house down when forgetting about it.

when i'm busy is precisely when it pisses me off. like stfu i didn't forget that i'm hungry, i will eat when this meeting ends

Yeah, when I bought my new one a few years ago and saw a "mute" button I damn near cried with joy.

Part of the reason I love my air fryer, the reheat option is much quieter then a microwave.

The main noise that our microwave makes is the open and shutting of the door.

I've tried closing it ever so slighty...and it pops into place with a SLAM!

That, and when they don't set the turntable so it returns your vessel to its original position every 30 seconds.

Current one we have is hyper senstive with its magnetron shut off switch.
You can close the door, but the switch needs a bit of an oomph to actually cook anything, otherwise the timer runs and you look like a clown.

Where it becomes a real pain is when you cook something like a potato. The steam will put just enough pressure that the gasket of the door will 'push it open' and shut off the magnetron, so it's not actually cooking. However, the timer still goes and it becomes a guessing game of if it stopped at 1:30 remaining or 3:00 remaining. D:<

The previous one didn't have this issue, but then again it also cooked a hole through its own metal and had a EM radiation leak for who knows how long.
