You can't use any "free" email accounts like yahoo. It has to be a personal work or ISP email address that'll have your real name on it.

You can't register with a VPN or proxy. They'll call it "suspicious IP activity".

So why do they want your real name and actual location? Fuck if I want some mystery nerd having that information.

People need to understand the level of insanity you're dealing with when you deal with ResetEra types.

Gamefaqs is definitely the Wild West compared to sites with curated censorship for what to think or say. But that's part of the charm of the site.

It's not so much a scam site as it is a cesspool

Consider the type of people who run / inhabit ResetEra and what kind of tactics they like to use against people who don't blindly agree with them. That, rather than a scam attempt, is why they want to know who you are and where you work.

The sheer obsession people have with resetera boggles my mind. The site being left wing is the only good thing. The overzealous mods ban first and don't ask questions. A lot of the community resides on OTs or discord.

HL being banned is because JK Rowling is a proud transphobe. I don't see whats so hard about that. But, this is CE and half you mouth breathers proudly support her still.

ResetEra somehow manages to be worse than Something Awful in terms of walking on egg shells. You can and will be banned for anything. It's not even a matter of political afflication. You even remotely act weird you are instantly banned.

The Gaming Side and some of the communities are alright. It's got a lot of activity and usually where I get my gaming news, although they throw a massive fit if any female character isn't dressed like a nun. The Off-Topic side, though, has the majority of the crazies. I remember reading a Jussie Smollet thread (when his story just broke) and they promptly banned anyone that questioned Smollet's story in any way, then when it was revealed he lied they just quietly pretended they didn't do anything wrong.

It's weird how it can even survive, as strict as it is about even innocent things. The mere mention of Hogwarts Legacy was forbidden, which seems pretty silly for a gaming forum.

I'm a pretty far left guy, that place was robotic and off putting. I'll stick with CE and a bit of controversy.

That place is just weird. People can use racial slurs there. Racial slurs directed at other real people (I think you have to claim you yourself are of that racial group to use them, but not sure). But if you discuss certain games or disagree with a take on a game you get banned.

I got banned for calling the mods oppressive.

There was a topic where a bunch of people were calling a black person the c-word for having a bad take. I didn't agree with the guy's take either but I wasn't going to call him a racial slur over it. I never went back again after that. Just don't want to see that shit.

And it shouldn't be a bannable post for all the millions of other things it could be in response to.

Its just an awful forum filled with people who dont live in the real world. As mentioned before, you get banned for the silliest things like disagreeing with other users, making drive by posts that dont add to the discussion, and talking about certain games like Hogwarts Legacy. You can get away with racism however. As long as you claim that youre black for example, you can use almost every racial slur in the book against other black people. Hell, there was a thread where people said that Barret from FF7 Remake didnt sound and act like a black man. People who called this thread out were banned for Dismissing concerns about colorism. There are also threads made to mock short people with some users going as far as to say that anyone under a specific height shouldnt be allowed to live. No bans there of course.

ResetEra mods are several times worse than any GFAQs mod. The worse thing a mod can call you here is a joke account. On ResetEra, mods will call directly users idiots, worthless, etc. There was a mod who mocked a YouTubers(Etika) death. They will also play favoritism. If youre friends with the mods, you can pretty much get away with anything. Theres a user on that site that nobody likes because hes an ass who always complains and derails threads but he gets away with it because hes a good friend with one of the mods.

A few months ago, there was massive drama on the board. In the Sales thread, one of the popular and well liked users named Chris who was known for sharing Sales data since he was in the industry was harassed and stalked severely by another user. When Chris defended himself, he was banned. Was the other user banned? No. It was later leaked from the mods discord that they disliked Chris and were looking for an opportunity to ban him. Therefore, a bunch of users left and created their own forum called FamiBoards.

Now, why do people pay so much attention to ResetEra? Why not just ignore it? Well, thats difficult. A lot of people in the Western video game industry browse and post on ResetEra. They actually do take into consideration what people on that forum say sometimes. Plenty of credible leaks also originate on ResetEra.
