How do you occupy yourself? Use your phone? Read a magazine? Look out a window?

On a lark, I did L.A. to NYC and back. Had to be in Rome in a week and had the time.

Wouldn't do it again, middle America sucks, but had the time to think and meet some unusual/semi-interesting but nice people. A lot of agoraphobes, inner ear problems and etc.

The food was surprisingly good but not a lot of fresh fruit or vegetables. Occasionally a stand selling packaged salads etc. in the West. Occasionally, time to get a to go meal at an extended stop.

Got very claustrophobic after day 2. Almost hooked up with a chunky Amtrak bartender. I think her cabin would have been too small though. Mine definitely was.

I've never been on a train before.
